Hi, at first I declined joining as I thought I could cope myself, I was diagnosed with breast cancer in March and during lockdown had a lumpectomy and lymph node clearance, I now suffer with Lymphodema in the breast and arm area. 8 months on I still become emotional for no reason, I’m sure COVID doesn’t help the situation, I feel guilty keep burdening my husband with my feelings as he went through prostate cancer himself 5 years ago.  Nurses say this is the new me ! But I liked the old me and not so much the new me !

I haven’t been able to go back into hospital for a check up at all since my operation so just go along myself thinking I am improving, I’ve been told the worst things for Lymphodema is the sun and heavy lifting, we have a home in Lanzarote which we are now frightened to visit as I am so worried about insect bites and feel we need to sell, we bought it when my husband was going through his treatment, but now for me I feel we should sell it.

I generally do all the heavy work as my husband can’t anymore. Lots of mixed emotions and it sounds like I’m feeling sorry for myself - apologies for going on, but I have joined to hear how other ladies cope.

  • Hi  and a warm welcome to the Macmillan Online Community, a Community that no one really plans to see themselves joining, and so sorry to hear about your ongoing challenges.

A cancer diagnosis brings a lot of confusion, stress and many questions but talking with other people who are on the same type of journey helps a lot.

The Community is organised into support groups so you may want to start looking in our Life after cancerBreast cancer and Lymphoedema groups as these are the places where you will connect with others walking the treatment journey both as a patient or family.

Follow the above links then choose ‘click to join' or ‘join’ when the page opens.

You can then introduce yourself, post questions or just  join in with existing discussions by clicking on 'reply'.

Its always good to talk and the Macmillan Support Services provides lots of information, support or just a listing ear.

Most services are open 8am to 8pm, 7 days a week and it's free to call on 0808 808 00 00 have a look by Clicking here to see what is available.

You can use other methods to contact our Support Services (LINK) and we also have our Ask an Expert section, but do allow two working days for replies from our expert team.

    All the very best.
