Hi everyone,

I have recently been diagnosed with Stage 2 Cervical Cancer and in less than 2 weeks will be having an open, radical hysterectomy. I am 30 years old and feel as though my body is a lot older! My muscles and joints are aching and my lower back is in terrible pain. Up until my diagnosis, I had very few symptoms and my diagnosis came from a routine smear test. Since then I have had a lot of heavy bleeding, sore joints and body and generally feel lethargic, is this normal? I'm trying to convince myself that this is just mind over matter, and I am probably just making myself sick with worry.

Strangely enough, I am not necessarily worried about surgery, even though it is major and I will be wiped out for at least 12 weeks (with a 2, 5 and 9yr old!), my main worry at the moment is that I feel like I am alone? Even though I am not, I have a great partner and family/friends, but with Covid19 everything I am going to and all these appointments are on my own. It is infuriating! Especially being away from my family for a week and not being able to have any visitors.

Is there anyone who has any advice re the joint and back pain? Using typical heat pads etc. Nothing is seeming to work and paracetamol is just not cutting it!

Thank you,

A

  • Hi and a warm welcome to the Online Community, although I'm sorry to read about your diagnosis. You might like to join the cervical cancer group where you'll find lots of others with similar experiences. I had my hysterectomy at a young age too, with two boys under 5 and, while no-one can say it's easy, it's do-able. You might need to ask your GP about painkillers, but I'd try the cervical cancer forum for advice.
