In July soon after my 72nd birthday I was invited to my doctors surgery for an annual checkup. It didn’t go well, iron count down, blood trace in stool sample. Fast tracked for colonoscopy. The anxiety has been excruciating
Last Wednesday my colonoscopy revealed a tumour of some kind. Looking into the eyes of the nurses, I read concerned expressions. They sent me for a CT scan (lucky to get one straight away). Then it’s home to sweat for a week until diagnosis. Here I sit on a bright Sunday morning feeling every little niggling pain and I keep telling myself it’s just anxiety. On Wednesday I’ll get a phone call with my diagnosis ... expect the worst, hope for the best ... is my mantra. I guess that’s similar to the experience of most people who’ve just leaned they have cancer. I’m seeing that I’m experiencing the same fears and anxieties as many in this group.
Hi and a very warm welcome to the online community
I'm sorry to hear that after going for an annual check up you've had a colonoscopy which has revealed a tumour. It must be a very upsetting time for you and it's perfectly normal to be fearful and anxious.
The community is divided up into groups so I'm going to recommend that you join the Bowel (colon and rectal) cancer forum group (link) where you can ask questions, share experiences and get support from others who have this type of cancer.
To join just click on the link I've created and then choose 'click to join' on the page that opens. You can then introduce yourself and post questions after selecting '+New' or '+' (depending on the type of device you're using) and join in with existing conversations by clicking on 'reply'.
When you have a minute, it would be really useful if you could pop something about your journey so far into your profile as it really helps others when answering or looking for someone with a similar diagnosis. It also means that you don't have to keep repeating yourself. To do this click on your username and then select 'Profile'. You can amend it at any time and if you're not sure what to write you can take a look at mine by clicking on my username.
Whatever cancer throws your way, we’re right there with you.
We’re here to provide physical, financial and emotional support.
