I am writing to say hello and introduce.
My cancer is stage 4, pancreatic that has spread to my liver.
One of my main discomforts is the regular ascites build up, which does not seem to want treating by chemotherapy. So far I have had three ascetic drains where everything then feels better for a week or so.
Is there a limit to the number of drains you can have or other longer term solutions? Should I just try and get on with life when it builds up - it does make little things difficult though - and pretend it's not there?
It impacts more on how much I can eat, rather than my appetite, if that makes sense, which in turn then stops my putting weight on which then doesn't help.
Any suggestions?
Also any forums to follow, people to inspire, books to read, podcasts to listen to .......that kind of thing?
Hi and a very warm welcome to the online community
I found being diagnosed with cancer did turn my life upside down but I found joining the online community a great source of information and companionship.
The community is divided up into groups so if you feel able to tell me what type of cancer you have then I could recommend a group for you to join. Once you've joined a group you can ask questions, share experiences and get support from others who will understand what you're feeling as they have been there, or are there.
If you prefer you can click on this link which will take you to the groups list which you could have a look through yourself.
Macmillan also has a great deal of information available online or by ordering a booklet and clicking here will take you to it.
When you have a minute, it would be really useful if you could pop something about your journey so far into your profile as it really helps others when answering or looking for someone with a similar diagnosis. It also means that you don't have to keep repeating yourself. To do this click on your username and then select 'Profile'. You can amend it at any time and if you're not sure what to write you can take a look at mine by clicking on my username.
Whatever cancer throws your way, we’re right there with you.
We’re here to provide physical, financial and emotional support.
