hi im V,first time here so be patient with me. not really sure how it all works.
3 weeks ago i had a Colonoscopy after getting symptoms that i knew were not right, i was sedated so i didn't take much in after the doctor spoke to me and my daughter.he told me i had bowel cancer, thats all i heard really. Then he said im sending you for a MRI scan and a CT scan to see if it has spread to liver and lungs.
i had my scans on 18th of August and 23rd of August. I have heard nothing.this is the worst time,as i suffer from Anxiety, and had a bit of a meltdown yesterday, because they meet on a Wednesday to discuss it. does anyone know how long they take to get back to you with results. And do they phone you or write to you,do they call you in if its good or bad news. i cant stop thinking about it,altho im trying to stay positive, and busy
I just want to know so i can organise myself, its the waiting thats the worst
Hi and a very warm welcome to the online community
I'm very sorry to hear that you've recently been diagnosed with bowel cancer. Feeling as you do is perfectly normal after a cancer diagnosis and when waiting for the results of tests and scans.
The community is divided up into groups so I'm going to recommend that you join the Bowel (colon and rectum) cancer group (link) where you can ask questions, share experiences and get support from others who have this type of cancer.
To join just click on the link I've created and then choose 'click to join' on the page that opens. You can then introduce yourself and post questions after selecting '+New' or '+' (depending on the type of device you're using) and join in with existing conversations by clicking on 'reply'.
When you have a minute, it would be really useful if you could pop something about your journey so far into your profile as it really helps others when answering or looking for someone with a similar diagnosis. It also means that you don't have to keep repeating yourself. To do this click on your username and then select 'Profile'. You can amend it at any time and if you're not sure what to write you can take a look at mine by clicking on my username.
Hello VC19
I also had bowel cancer (well, anal/rectal cancer to be precise) - and in my experience they would make an appointment and talk to you face to face. Try not to become too anxious about the time lag. Although we are told it’s best to get treatment quickly, I went from misdiagnosis, to waiting many months before being admitted to hospital – and 35 years later I am still here.
Best wishes.
Whatever cancer throws your way, we’re right there with you.
We’re here to provide physical, financial and emotional support.
