Hi all, my Mum was diagnosed with fairly advanced Ovarian cancer at Christmas and has just completed her 6 and final course of Chemo. She has now been asked to have Avastin therapy. She is happy to do so, but she was looking forward to her hair growing back, and we would like to know if this will happen whilst she undergoes Avastin? We know it's not a big issue in the scheme of things but she's been so brave through all of this and she was really looking forward to having her hair and eyelashes back! Any other input re: what we can expect would be appreciated also. xx
Hi and welcome to the online community
I'm sorry to read that your mum has recently been diagnosed with advanced ovarian cancer. It's good that they want to try her on a new treatment but I can understand her worries about her hair not growing back.
As the community is divided up into groups, I'm going to recommend that you join the ovarian cancer group as this will give you the opportunity to ask your question about Avastin, share experiences and get support from others with a similar diagnosis to your mum.
Another group which I think you might benefit from joining is the family and friends group, which is a safe and supportive place to share your worries with others who understand what it's like to have a loved one living with cancer.
To join either or both of these groups just click on the links I've created and then choose 'join this group' on the pages that open. You can then introduce yourself and post questions after selecting 'start a discussion' and join in with existing conversations by clicking on 'reply'.
When you have a minute, it would be really useful if you could pop something about your mum's journey so far into your profile as it really helps others when answering or looking for someone with a similar diagnosis. It also means that you don't have to keep repeating yourself. To do this click on your username and then select 'Edit Profile'. You can amend it at any time and if you're not sure what to write you can take a look at mine by clicking on my username.
Hi
Good news. Avastin doesnt cause hair loss ( well it didn't for me or others I have heard of). I finished my chemo August and continued with just avastin until this may and my hair grew. Hope this gives a little somethin to brighten a difficult time
Marie
Thank you so much, she will be very happy to hear that xx
