Hi, iam new to the group, my partner has just been diagnosed with colon cancer and just had surgery which has left him with a permanent stoma , he is struggling with this as he has only just turned 40, pathology report showed cancer had spread to two nearby lymph nodes and a blood vessel, we are now waiting to see an oncologist and chemotherapy is to start in January, we don’t now what stage it is at , iam guessing it’s advanced, no idea what happens from here, would welcome any advise on this please. Thank you in advance.
Hi, sorry I had so much to say I ran out of space, we are now waiting to see an oncologist and chemotherapy is to start in January, we don’t know what’s stage it is I am guessing it’s advanced, No idea what happens from here. Would welcome any advise please, thank you in advance.
Welcome to the online community and I'm really sorry that you've had to join us at this time as your partner has had surgery for colon cancer.
Unfortunately waiting for further information always seems to take ages and without this information we start to imagine all things hopefully seeing the oncologist will happen in early January and you will start to get the answers you need so much.
In the meantime I would like to invite you to join some of our groups that are specific to your partner.
The first group to join is our Bowel (colon and rectal) cancer forum group where you will be greeted by the very friendly and supportive members who will be only too pleased to help you with any questions you may have and my friend court will be along shortly to give you her welcome, Court is wealth of information and will give you a lot of help and maybe put your mind at rest whilst you are waiting for your appointment. In all our groups we would rather you ask questions, even if you think it to be stupid or daft we won't think so and will give you honest answers based on the members own experiences.
The second group I would invite you to join is our Ileostomy, colostomy, urostomy and any other stoma support group where we can answer any problems to do with your partners stoma management and help solve any problems he may have. I can be found in the stoma support group every day and look forward to seeing you over there.
Not only do we have the above groups with members just like yourself who will be happy to share experiences with you, we also have an Ask a Nurse page where our specialist nurses will answer most medical questions and you are very welcome to ask them anything, unfortunately the nurses can take about two days to answer your questions but they will always get back to you.
I would like to suggest that you try and avoid the internet as a source of information and use the members of this site as your sounding board and interact with the real people on here.
To join any of the above groups click on the group name in green and this will take you to the groups home page where if you click join this group, you will then be able to start a new discussion with your questions or start to get involved with the current discussions.
I hope that New Year will bring you closer to finding the answers to your many questions and your partner sees some positive results from his chemotherapy.
Ian
Welcome to the forum but I am so sorry to hear about your partner . Please do come and join us in the Bowel Forum . You will hopefully find the information regarding chemotherapy very useful .
The waiting stage is very hard as it’s easy to let your mind wander to worst case scenarios . Right now there is nothing to indicate that is the case for your partner and hopefully the information they are presently collecting will put your minds at rest .
Just to encourage you my mum was at the other end of the diagnostic spectrum in that she had cancer that had spread but Bowel cancer is in the fortunate position that it has lots of treatment options. One treatment opened up other options and she is doing well ten years later .
Hope we can be of some support to you too ,
take care ,
Court
