Hi all I have breast cancer and I had my first chemotherapy session on 13th Dec. I have had a few side effects, dry eye sore dry mouth, but nothing major so far. However my hair has started to fall out and my scalp is extremely sore.
Has anyone on here any advise on anything I can do to help,I have been able to sleep on my side due to the pain...
Hi and welcome to the community. I am sure you will get a lot of help and support here from people who understand. Could I point you to the friendly Breast Cancer Group . There you will find the group members have a lot of experience of this and will be able to offer some advice. Click on the highlighted link to get to the group. Once you have joined the group, then start a new discussion with your concerns and I am sure someone will be able to help. Best wishes.
Morning
I'm assuming you didn't use the cold cap scalp cooling during your first chemo as the sore scalp is a sure sign your hair follicles are giving out - this usually occurs between days 12 to 24 after your first session with EC or FEC chemo :-/
The longer your hair the worse this will feel as it is the hair weight pulling on the follicles that cause the pain. Quickest way to ease this is to cut your hair quite short to reduce the weight. This will have to be done carefully now as the pain has already started. Once shortened the relief is almost immediate. A silky type pilllowcase can help at night with sleep as it enables your head to move about more freely.
Do use the link to the Breast Group rily has placed in his reply and once you join start a new discussion asking about this scalp pain and any other questions you may have.
Hope this is of some help for now - G n' J
Thank you so much, I did have my long hair cut short initially as I gave most of my hair to the princess trust but my hair is really thick.
i will arrange for it to be cut really short now to relieve the tenderness.
