hi

lost my dad in May and last weekend my father in law both to lung cancer I moved in with dad for his last two weeks of life then returned home to carry on with supporting my lovely father in law as we had been to every appt and treatment together for the past two years and grown very close. I have spent every day and evening with him for past six weeks as he was having moments of psychosis and I was the only one he wanted and found him last Saturday morning he had had a massive internal bleed and I tried to resuscitate him on way advise from the ambulance service despite knowing it was too late I’m devastated and blaming myself I left at midnight the night before and I had a bad feeling I know it’s not my fault but I’m a complete mess has anyone had counselling and how long did it take to get an appointment thanks for any advise x

  • Hi and welcome to the online community

I'm very sorry that you have lost both your dad and father-in-law in such a short space of time so it's no surprise that you feel as you do.

Can I suggest that you join the bereaved family and friends group where you can talk to others who have lost a loved one. They will be able to tell you about their counselling experiences.

To join just click on the link I've created and then choose 'join this group' on the page that opens. You can then post your question after selecting 'start a discussion' and join in with existing conversations by clicking on 'reply'.

We also have in the Ask an Expert section ask about bereavement support where Bereavement Support Practitioner Wendy will answer your questions within 2 working days.

    Sending a supportive ((hug))
