Hi there, I'm here as a mom whose adult son has just been diagnosed with skin cancer, but also as a line manager whose colleague was diagnosed with bladder cancer just over a year ago, and told today they are now on palliative care with only months to live. The colleague is someone I consider a friend also, so the last year has been tough seeing everything she and her family have gone through, then my son's diagnosis only 4 weeks ago, and colleague's update today have left me feeling very alone and tearful - hence this message Not sure what I'm seeking by posting here, but I guess maybe just someone who understands

  • Hi  and a very warm welcome to the online community which I hope you'll find is both an informative and supportive place to be.

I’m Anne, one of the Community Champions here on the Online Community, and I've had skin cancer diagnoses in the past so know what a worrying time it can be for the whole family.

The online community is divided into different support groups so I'm going to recommend that you join either the melanoma group or the skin cancer group, for non melanoma skin cancers. You'll then connect directly with others who have the same type of cancer as your son.

Other groups which I think you might benefit from joining to get support are either the carers only group, if you are your son's carer, or the family and friends group if you're not his carer. Then to speak to others who will understand what you're going through with your friend, the supporting someone with incurable cancer would provide support.

To join, just click on the links I've created and, once you've joined, you can start a new post in the same way as you did here and join in with existing conversations by clicking on 'reply'.

    Sending virtual ((hugs))
