Hi, I attended A & E 4 weeks ago with suspect ted vertigo, and found out it was lung cancer and a selection on day brain tumour. Not what I was expecting! The brain tumour was mostly removed 2 weeks ago, and I'm awaiting follow up radiotherapy. Meanwhile I've had a PET scan and lung function test with the Thoracic team and I'm waiting to see what treatment they decide. I'm feeling exhausted from the operation, but getting a bit better every day, but I'm finding it so difficult to come to terms with this diagnosis, as I've always been very active and now I feel old! I am often in tears when I'm alone, which I'm sure will improve as acceptance takes root. It's very early days for me, thank goodness for my specialist nurse, who just hugged me.......
Hi and a very warm welcome to the online community
It's perfectly normal to find it difficult to come to terms with a cancer diagnosis especially when you weren't expecting it.
Hopefully you'll find chatting to others who understand what you're going through will help you to understand what's happening to you. With this in mind, could I suggest that you join the lung cancer group and also the secondary brain tumours group where you can ask questions, share experiences and get support.
To join these groups just click on the links I've created and then choose 'join this group' on the pages that open. You can then introduce yourself or post a question after selecting 'start a discussion' and join in with existing conversations by clicking on 'reply'.
When you feel up to it, it would be really useful if could pop something about your journey so far into your profile as it helps others when answering or looking for someone with a similar diagnosis. It also means that you don't have to keep repeating yourself. To do this click on your username and then select 'Edit Profile'. You can amend it at any time and if you're not sure what to write you can take a look at mine by clicking on my username.
I can't give you a real hug but I can send you a virtual (((hug)))
