Mum recently diagnosed with bowel cancer which has advanced locally in to the abdomen.
Currently awaiting response from specialists in Basingstoke for potential surgery to cure.
The surgery would be major involving removing organs and a long time in hospital.
If cannot go ahead with this then palliative chemotherapy.
Does anyone know how long this prolonges life or had this type of surgery treatment to advise what to expect?
Any advice would be greatly appreciated.
Hi and welcome to the online community although I'm sorry you've had to find us.
Could I suggest that you join the bowel cancer group and post your question there as I'm sure the very knowledgeable members of that group will be able to help you with your questions.
To join just click on the link I've created and then choose 'join this group' on the page that opens. You can then post your questions after selecting 'start a discussion' and respond to existing posts by clicking on 'reply'.
When you feel up to it, it would be really useful if could pop something about your mum's journey so far into your profile as it helps others when answering or looking for someone with a similar diagnosis. It also means that you don't have to keep repeating yourself. To do this click on your username and then select 'Edit Profile'. You can amend it at any time and if you're not sure what to write you can take a look at mine by clicking on my username.
