Getting my head around it

Hi my name's David, I got diagnosed with adenocarcinoma in my oesophagus 6 weeks ago and it's still sinking in. Since then ive' had an oesopageal stent fitted to allow me to eat (still bit of discomfort from it). I have a single tumour and been told it's incurable asai have a number of lymph nodes affected 2 of which are right next to the heart. Without EOX chemo then i have 2 years so stupid not to accept it.

I have been bombarded with with pamphlets, booklets etc and trying to get my head around it is a a night mare.

I am so sorry to hear about your recent and shocking diagnosis. I’m not surprised you are finding it a nightmare to get your head around.

You’ve got the pamphlets and the booklets. You’ve got google too. What you might be missing is the support of people who really know what it’s like to live through this nightmare. In which case, welcome to the community.

I’m one of the community champs - a group of volunteers who help look after the community and make sure it’s a safe place where people affected by cancer can meet (albeit virtually) others in the same boat, share information and experiences and make friends. I was told three years ago that I had incurable cancer and in that time I’ve had loads of treatment but I am still going. I have learned to live in the day and enjoy every pleasure that comes my way. It takes willpower and skills I picked to through learning meditation have really helped.

There is life beyond this shocking news. There is a way through the daunting treatment. You are not alone.
