GP Daily Appts Phone-in

My GP offer a phone on the day if you need an appointment.  I phoned yesterday and today bang on opening time at 8am.  Engaged tone.  I'm ringing continually until 8:30am when I had to take my daughter to school.  I tried on my return after 9am - same.  Eventually about 11am I get the ring tone, it's answered, and the machine tells me I'm number TWELVE in the queue.   I hang up - clearly all the appointments are gone now.   Today I get the ring tone at 9:30am and I'm number thirteen in the queue.   I have lost the will to live now and I give up.

Fastest finger to the GP phone line . . . . . . . . . .   sigh

It's so dis-spiriting when you don't get the ring tone.

I don't think phone-on-the-day is the right way to do it.  I think they should do double-booking (to allow for the no-shows) or a universal triage system.  Or I think the haematology/oncology treatment lines should offer more support to take the pressure off primary care.

Or perhaps the system is working and the fact I've given-up shows it's not important enough for a slot LOL  Laughing

I know many people aren't available at 8am due to school run or work so my problem is miniscule in comparison.

  • Thank you Ted I am very grateful xxInnocent

  • Grumpy isnt the right word for what I am when it comes to the NHS. Or more to the point, you know who. TOO LITTLE INVESTMENT and bloody incompetence by certain politicians. Have spent the day swearing at the radio. Dogs seem unmoved by my righteous anger. I do agree though that euthanasia is a bit drastic to cut the waiting times. Still plenty of people will die of cold next winter, and some of hunger, covid ( although isnt that over?) and waiting for ambulances.

    xx

  • Its being so cheerful that keeps me going of course.

  • It's your saving grace OBS. Not that you havnt got others. Have you?

  • Too many to mention

  • Understand how you feel OBS. I do tend to loose my temper with receptionist. Don't  like Boris  he's  ageist and they are just out to privatise the nhs. I am onto appointments tomorrow  to see were my scan appointment is and why haven't I had it yet. X

  • Hi - I got through later, but there were no appts and I learned my Dr is off this week anyway.  Clearly she must do all the work LOL

I wrote to my oncologist on Tues too for the record "I have felt sh1t for 2 weeks and I can't get a ring tone at my GPs and I'm not phoning your nurses because of what happened last time" (they told me they'd booked me an appt in dept A with Dr B but it turned out they'd dumped me in A&E.  I was there for 7 hours and walked out in the end.).

Felt a tad better in the last 2 days.  Maybe I can wait for the nice Dr F on Monday.  Dangerous tactic though huh.  Maybe my oncologist will deliver something - I am sure there is a backdoors way in to GPs for NHS staff.

  • The only good thing about your post is that you felt a tad better. Best not to pass that news to the surgery, they will consider you cured and cancel your membership. Hope you get sorted Mmum. X

  • this is so frustrating for you! I hope your oncologist gets back to you soon x
