Don't be suprised if you only sleep for a little while! That's quite normal and usually there is someone on this site who is also awake!!
Yes, it is very hard to be strong and very hard not to cry but it can also be hard to laugh and you know as well as I do that your Mum would want you to laugh.
Remember all the great times, remember with Mum, all of the times you spent together and if ever it gets too much, picture yourself in the best and calmest place you can remember and spend a few minutes relaxing there before coming back to reality. It really helps.

Hello, I am new to the website, my Father has been diagnosed a few months ago with secondary liver, he has received one course of chemo treatment the end of March, he has been really poorly for over a week with sickness and diarohhea, we finally got him admitted to hospital, but the doctors don't know if this is an infection he has picked up or a side effect from the treatment received. It has really knocked the stuffing out of him, he seems so lifeless. Has anyone experienced this side effect, is it normal. I want to think positive, but it is so hard when he looks so poorly already.

Hi MackemSue, welcome to the site. I too only joined the site today. My mum has lung cancer, so is different from your Dads. However, my Mum was constantly sick the nausea/vomiting so I'm sure it is a side affect of the Chemo. However my mum has the complete opposite to your Dad in that she is constantly constipated. Mum is in hospital a week today with a chest infection and a routine chest x ray picked this up. We took her in to hospital for the vomiting originally. It is like you say, so hard to watch our parents so helpless, it's soul destroying to say the least. I hope the hospital sorts out your Dads illness and he gets well very, very soon. All the best Cj xx

I'm sorry to hear about your husband. Mum was diagnosed mid Feb this year and has been on a downward slide ever since, what with one thing or another! What a rollercoaster, to say the least eh? We were told last week that once the chest infection had cleared that would start her on the Tarceva. I hope the Tarceva has worked for your husband, I will have everything crossed for you on the 22nd. Take care and keep in touch. Cj x x

Hi, My Dad was diagonsed with lung cancer on 1st April, 2009. My 4 brothers, mysister and myself went round to see Dad & Mum as soon as we found out. It has hit us all really hard as we are a close knit family. He has an appointment next week to see the consultant and find out the extent of the cancer. Crazy thoughts run through your mind. Just reading some other messages people have written has eased my mind a lot, but it won't properly sink in until we go for the appointment next week.
To be honest, scared is an understatement of howI'm feeling. What must my poor Dad be going through.
