I was wondering if anyone else has had nightmares after surgery. I ended up having two surgerys within days of each other. It will have been 2 weeks tomorrow. I got home yesterday and was hoping they would stop but no such luck.

  • Hi

I haven’t seen you post in a while, so I had no idea you’d had 2 surgeries-I hope you’re recovering ok. I’ve had bad dreams and very vivid dreams sometimes after surgery, but nothing that persisted, and I hope you’ll find that they go in time. I think it’s just the unconscious mind dealing with what you’ve gone through and processing it but that’s just my view!

  • Hey sarah.

Ye i kinda shut off for a while to be honest. I hope you are doing well.

I went in on the 23rd for radical hysterectomy with lymph node removal and ovaries. But there was an issue a few days later an I ended up with surgery to sort my bowls out too. Turned out they was stuck together and infected. Got home yesterday.

Aww im sorry you had the nightmares too. Hopefully mine pass then. It prob dont help I'm terrified of having the staples removed lol.

  • Oh gosh..you’ve had a lot to deal with. I was very nervous about having staples removed (I had 25 each time in my surgeries) and I couldn’t even look at them coming out. But I literally never felt a thing, except for one staple one time which nipped a little bit. It was way easier than I had imagined, and it all felt much better when they were out.

How are you getting on now? Are you feeling better physically? You need to take things easy and take time to get over everything. I just had occasional bad dreams, nothing long term but I think it’s natural when we’ve been through difficult experiences.

  • Ye its been a lot in a short space really.

Ah that's good to hear. Its the fear of the not knowing isnt it. Best to hear from others who have been there.

The nurse told me taking the drain out wouldn't hurt. I definitely disagree after experiencing it.

I'm stuck in my room mostly at min. Closest place to the loo haha. Both legs are swollen so get tired quickly but I feel much better being home. My son has been fantastic bless him.

Mad what our brains do to cope with things isn't it. Hopefully the bad dreams stop soon. I could do with a full sleep really.

How was your friend staying over?

  • I had an abdominal drain after my gallbladder surgery, but I didn’t feel it coming out as the nurse was so quick, so I’m sorry your drain removal was uncomfortable. It makes you nervous about having something else being done.

It’s lovely to get back to your own bed after a hospital stay-hopefully you will be able to sleep much better there now you’re settled and you won’t keep having the nightmares. It’s good to hear your getting help from your son-you need that as you recover.

I didn’t know how my staples would be removed, but it was just done with a little device similar to what is used when you remove staples from paper! The thought was much worse than the reality.

I had a lovely time with my friend thank you. We had a great week together and lots of laughs and non stop chatting! It was a real boost to spend time together. it’s hard not being able to see her very often.

  • Aww im glad yours wasn't a bad experience. I said lots of words not bad but foods lol.

I do feel more relaxed about them now after talking to you. Thank you. I think I will heal quicker etc once there out. Less to worry about lol.

Got to ring the lymphoedema specialist today too. Definitely hun. I'd be so lost without him.

Aww im happy to hear that. I remember how excited you was to have her visit. Cant beat a decent laugh with someone close. Shame she's so far but I guess it makes the time you do get together even more special. Hopefully you will catch up again sooner.
