Hi, My name is Bob and I live in Cambridgeshire. I am married with an 8 yr old daughter and three older step sons. Up untill the end of last year everything was tickety boo having recently moved to a new house which we love. Work was busy but enjoyable. I am Manager of an electrical companys maintenance department and my Wife, Linda was enjoying her job as a Nurse. The three boys are buying there own house nearby and all work locally.
In November I went to my Doctors with a small "cyst" on my chest. After a couple of referals and many Xrays, pet scans, bone scans and CT scans I was told the news everybody dreads. My lump on the chest was a secondary cancer of which the primary was in my left Kidney. I was fast tracked to the Royal Brompton, under the expert care of Mr Laddas who informed a long and complicated operation would need to be carried out to remove the bone tumor and surrounding bone which involved two ribs,my collar bone and chest bone. I did not have time to panic, the operation was carried out the next day over 10 hrs. After nearly two weeks in the Brompton I am recovering well from this op but I have since been told that the Cancer is in both kidneys as well as small mets in both lungs. It seems at the moment further ops are out the question and i have been put on the drug Sutent. I am one week into this and so far so good. I do not know what the future holds but I have to remain positive.

Thanks for that Andrew, and please everyone dont take my above post as an admission of defeat, I see it as a great excuse to have a bloody good time. Andrew im very happy to join this pact, and to everybody else, try to be positive and upbeat, it really does help and it surely can only make you feel better. I intend to be around for a long time yet, Although my initial prognosis was a yearish my oncologist has since said I could be pestering him "for years". WATCH THIS SPACE!!

Hi to everyone. had a good day today although I did have had to drag myself through the latter part as I felt so tired. We done a bar-B-Q tonight which was ok but in hindsight i was too knackered to do a great job of it but I got by. Tomorrow I plan to rest up. I hope all your weekends went OK

    Hey Bob,

don't overdo things, let someone else do it for you - not DIY but more SEDI (someone else do it) lol.

Had a great day yesterday out for lunch and roof down on car, sun shining it was just heaven sent,

Today another lunch out and more open top driving is called for, sun is shining againso no excuses for staying inside for too long. I hope that you also have a good day even though you are redting up a bit!

    Besst wishes

    Andrew

    Hi Andrew and all

Not having a great day today. I have had two bad nights of feeling sick and not being able to sleep and today feel particularly off. I am not worried as I am sure its the Sutent causing it. My other medication has been altered so hopefully once it kicks in I will feel better again.

Well the extra medication has started to kick in and I feel a bit better today. I had a much better nights sleep and although still feel a tad nauseous, its much better than it was. Ive rested a lot today and even given in to Linda driving me around a bit. Although I don't feel like eating I did manage to force down a sarnie at my mums house. For the records I am nearing the end of week three on my third cycle of Sutent.

Dragged myself about today as the tiredness has really kicked in. In fact I spent all afternoon asleep on the sofa. Will post again when energy returns.

Hi to everyone, I had a reasonable nights sleep but still feel dog tired. My legs feel like lead weights and I am a beautiful shade of orange. I am also quite breathless. My hands and feet are also becoming susceptible to blisters and soreness. Today we plan to go out to lunch. Other than that we will probably be looking at the rain from the inside of the house and planning a couple of excursions for our holiday. According to Linda I also need to buy some new clothing for the grand holiday, whats wrong with my old shorts and tee shirt. we bought Kate some new dresses and she will look like a princess once on board the ship. We are really pushing the boat out on this holiday (not literally I hope). I hope you all manage to make the most of this rainy day.

    Hi Bob,

well if you're already a shade of orange your tan should look good from the hols - lol -

have you actually told us where you are or did I miss that one?

And, yes, Linda is right. If you're off on holiday you deffo need new togs to go with it - spend a bit more and look good!
I think I am lucky, I have only had minor side effects from the sutent so far and am 4 pills off finishing cycle 2. Just dry skin and some rough patches where the skin has rubbed off, so nothing really serious at all so far!

I have the next CT Scan booked for 28th May but am away from the day after for a few days so won't know results until 7-8th June! Then I have the MRI on my back for the spinal spread to see if the radiotherapy has worked on that. I will glow i the dark by then.

Have a great day and don't over do it, catch up later,

    Andrew
