Hi, My name is Bob and I live in Cambridgeshire. I am married with an 8 yr old daughter and three older step sons. Up untill the end of last year everything was tickety boo having recently moved to a new house which we love. Work was busy but enjoyable. I am Manager of an electrical companys maintenance department and my Wife, Linda was enjoying her job as a Nurse. The three boys are buying there own house nearby and all work locally.
In November I went to my Doctors with a small "cyst" on my chest. After a couple of referals and many Xrays, pet scans, bone scans and CT scans I was told the news everybody dreads. My lump on the chest was a secondary cancer of which the primary was in my left Kidney. I was fast tracked to the Royal Brompton, under the expert care of Mr Laddas who informed a long and complicated operation would need to be carried out to remove the bone tumor and surrounding bone which involved two ribs,my collar bone and chest bone. I did not have time to panic, the operation was carried out the next day over 10 hrs. After nearly two weeks in the Brompton I am recovering well from this op but I have since been told that the Cancer is in both kidneys as well as small mets in both lungs. It seems at the moment further ops are out the question and i have been put on the drug Sutent. I am one week into this and so far so good. I do not know what the future holds but I have to remain positive.

After a really good nights sleep, I awoke really early and so poor old Mollie(our Labrador) has been subjected to another walk. As soon as I let her off her lead she fixed her sights on this poor little bunny and set off to chase her game. However, when I called her she stopped, skidded and landed straight in the freezing cold lake. that was a nice surprise for her. When she got out she faithfully came and stood by me and then shook water all over me. That was a lovely surprise for me. At this point we were both so wet I let her swim for a bit before continuing our walk. We have a really nice walk around this man made lake and although it takes me a time to get round it as I have to rest every now and then I really enjoy it. Now that summer is finally beginning to appear I am looking forward to many more walks. I am now on day 5 third cycle of Sutent and the side effects are kicking in a bit quicker this time, but as I know roughly what to expect I am ready to deal with it.

Hello Bob, (and everyone following this thread), delighted to hear you are coping so well with Sutent, and at the high dose, and that you are keeping so active. My mum received the results of her MRI of spine on Monday, her tumour on her neck has not responded to radiotherapy received in Dec, although has not grown either. As no further radiotherapy can be given, she has now been referred to spinal surgeon to see if surgery is an option, as she has been told that if tumour grows, it will press on spine with serious consequences. We very worried about this. She has just finished her reduced cycle of Sutent, and has coped very well this time, maybe her body is adjusting to the drug. She had CT scan today which will show progression of the kidney cancer but results will not be available until Monday fortnight which is a long time to wait. She was able to go for lunch and some shopping after hospital appt which was brilliant. She mentioned during lunch that her urine output has greatly reduced over last few days which is another cause for worry. In the middle of all this, my father, who was also very fit and healthy, was diagnosied with Non Hodgkins Lymphoma in February, and is halfway through his chemotherapy treatment, thankfully he is doing very well and has no side effects. I feel sometimes that he does not receive the attention he deserves as he has been told his cancer is curable and all the focus is going on my mother. Prior to October last year, we had no experience of illness in the family and therefore are a bit overwhelmed with current situation. I do not get on this site for long so apologies if I do not reply to all who send messages, but I do feel site is brilliant and helps you realise that there are so many people affected by this awful disease. Hi Jan and thanks for your posting

I hope the surgery outcome is a good one and glad to see you mum is tolerating Sutent better this time. I would not accept a two week wait for the results of the scan. I was told it could be processed in about 4 hrs and the longest I have waited is three days. I also hope your dad contnues well with his treatment.

I had a lads evening down the pub last night and managed to sink a couple of pints (only shandy). It was good to go out and have a good natter about things that Linda would not find remotely interesting. The only down side was my bladder felt like it had been stretched out of all proportions. Today a lazyish day is on the cards. Kate has a friend coming round for the day so we might take them swimming and then out to lunch somewhere.

Bob, I hope you have a nice day with Katie, I didn't get the chance to thank you for your kind words on my thread the other day, the messages of support really make a tremendous difference don't you think? anyway, I am enjoying just being with mart at home and who knows what tomorrow will bring but today - he's here, much love to you and your family, TJ xx

We had a fab time at Ely Cathedral last night. The orchestra was brilliant and the choirs amazing. we were 2nd from the front row. we also had a private audience with the star performer during the interval along with drinks which was a very nice touch. Thanks Tommy and Kate for organising for us.
Today has been a bit low key as we were both knackered after the late night. We took the poor old dog for two walks and then went to support my sisters village fete she was helping to organise.
I have been on Sutent or one week in the third cycle and still feel really good
I hope you are all having a good bank holiday weekend.

    Hi Bob,

good to hear you are going from strength to strength and not letting the Sutent get on the way, sometimes I wonder if the worse bits are like that because we expect them to be and sort of will it into being, then I get knaocjered and think not - lol.

I have managed to drive by myself for the fist timein 2 months today and it was great, I have used half a tank of fuel just wandering around the countryside today with the roof down and the sun shininh and the wind blowing - its been just brilliant. I even manager to do some supewrmarket shopping on my own!!

So its been a good day for me, how has yours been - oh and by the way you still have'nt said what sort of new car you've ordered!!

    Speak soon, cheers

    Hi Andrew

I'm so glad your driving again. I, like you, was like a kid with a new toy and could not stop driving around.
My day, like yours has been brilliant. Ive managed to cut the grass, trim the hedge, start weeding the garden and take the dog for a walk. By the way, the new car will be a Nissan X trail sport. I cant wait to get behind the steering wheel.

Has anyone found out what colour you turn when you mix sunburn with Sutent,
