Are you having trouble sleeping?

Sleep problems may be caused by how you’re feeling emotionally, or as part of the side effects for cancer treatment. If you find it hard to have a good sleep, you’re not alone. The Online Community is here to support you 24/7.

“Getting a cancer diagnosis is extremely stressful, and that brings a whole load of emotions, and lack of sleep certainly does not help. I think many of us have periods of insomnia. I experienced a long period of not sleeping. I could go off to sleep quite quickly, but after an hour I would find myself wide awake again, and would spend the rest of the night getting frustrated because I couldn't sleep."

  • If you would like to talk and i am about always happy to reply to you sending hugs

  • Thanks Lynne, and you're a very good listener Relaxed️

We've had a fair number of new faces joining us recently, which is great as folk sometimes need a place to offload.

Our day ended well, even though it took over nine hours to get there, as my OH's x-ray didn't show up anything sinister. The results will be sent to his GP, but if we hear nothing further in the next couple of weeks I reckon we'll be in the clear.

How are you doing hon? xxx

  • Ok thank you the afects off treatment on Friday have settled down .so i am happy with that hugs for you and oh

  • Fingers crossed all is well

  • Aw good news Lynne, and let's hope they stay settled. Hopefully you'll be in good form to enjoy Christmas Christmas tree It's alarming how quickly it's getting nearer, but I think we've done just about everything there is to do now, so apart from a couple more appointments we can hopefully relax.

Fingers crossed you're prepared as it's a busy time of year. I'm not planning on going anywhere other than local for shopping now, as it's getting too busy for my liking. You know what I'd really like for a present? A rescue cat or dog. Unfortunately we can't just now, but maybe next year xxx

  • Something to put on your list .if you are good then maybe you will get the present you won't . sending lots of hugs

  • Hello Night OwlsOwl  Ive read most of everyone's posts. Some ups and downs, my thoughts are with all of you  . I had a busy day, went to bed early and ive just woke up. Thought I would check in before I try and go back to sleep. Im going for a appointment on Thursday, its the first one after seeing the consultant, who went through my diagnosis, showed me the pictures of all the scans, which was incredible seeing inside my body. Ive been told i  will have Chemoradiotherapy followed by Brachytherapy, and Thursday will be signing forms etc. The nurse who phoned me didn't say if I would also have a scan and tattoos during the appointment. This gremlin is 2b because of the size, 5cm. The consultant said it hasn't spread, and its "curative". She was very positive. So at the moment waiting for treatments, im usually a positive person (apart from initially being told its cancer and I fell apart for a while), im keeping busy, started a course, been singing with the choir at various events, watching my 6 grandchildrens christmas shows, and generally trying to be 'normal'. Ive read on here various people's experiences of Chemoradiotherapy and Brachytherapy, so im entering the next part of my journey with trepidation. I take each day as it comes. Im grateful for this forum and everyone who is on it Pray ive waffled quite a bit , so probably sent most of you to sleep Blush  im off to make a quick cup of tea before I settle down. Hugs to you all xxxx

  • Yes, quite a day. Exactly ten years since my previous womb cancer - unrelated. The insomnia, anxiety etc are so familiar. I'm awake today because my daughter is having an operation so my poor OH was out  at 5am to get her to hospital. It is so hard on OHs. I'll get a decent night's sleep tonight, I hope. I've been reading these stories and thinking of you all. We moved house last year and it was a very stressful experience, without the illnesses you are dealing with.

  • I’m back, my apologies. Had been unable to get back onto my account for some reason.. new account made via Facebook now!

I know I have mentioned before , but the mind is a powerful tool. Get yourself listening to some audio books if you can ‘Stop Overthinking’ the positivity will flow through you and then take every little step at a time. One baby step at a time without always thinking about every million thing that’s floating around in your brain.

Listen to your body when it needs its rest/sleep and you’ll a great deal better, maybe even try some meditation too? (Different folks, different strokes and all that jazz)

As for food, I stopped the prescription supplements (minus the Nutricrem puddings) as they all seemed to cause me more havoc than good with my stomach. Stopped shopping at the supermarket as their food is full of chod additives/chemicals. Now make fortified milk with natural fruit smoothies and try to throwsaid fortified milk into what ever I can to bump up the calories!

You’ll get there! if there is ever a time you want to chat as well!

  • Morning

I’ll let you know my experience in advance of your appointment on Thursday-it didn’t involve a scan and tattoos at that point-these happened in the radiotherapy department as a separate appointment.

There will be a lot of information about side effects on the paperwork to sign, but that’s because the consultant has to explain everything for you to sign consent for treatment. It doesn’t mean you will get any or all of them though.

I was stage 2b too at my original diagnosis, so the intention is definitely to cure. Just focus on that and the good news that it hasn’t spread. It’s a good strategy just to take a day at a time and keep yourself busy while you wait for the next step.

Ask any questions you’d like to in the cervical group as you go along-lots of us have been through the same treatment, but they might not all read this chat thread. Hope you managed to get some sleep.

    Sarah xx
