Are you having trouble sleeping?

Sleep problems may be caused by how you’re feeling emotionally, or as part of the side effects for cancer treatment. If you find it hard to have a good sleep, you’re not alone. The Online Community is here to support you 24/7.

“Getting a cancer diagnosis is extremely stressful, and that brings a whole load of emotions, and lack of sleep certainly does not help. I think many of us have periods of insomnia. I experienced a long period of not sleeping. I could go off to sleep quite quickly, but after an hour I would find myself wide awake again, and would spend the rest of the night getting frustrated because I couldn't sleep."

  • Hello Gill, sorry to hear you can't sleep, hope the film does its magic for you.

Just coming up to 6.55pm here, cold beer in the glass and a steak on the grill.

The locals are loving the weather - thunderstorms and torrential rain through last night, that doesn't happen much in the desert so they like the change.

Back to sunny and warm tomorrow apparently.

    Derek.

  • Hi Derek. I'm hoping I'll get off soon but still busy watching the film. You might have seen it - '71 about a Brit soldier in Belfast during the Troubles?

Anyway, I can't begin to tell you how envious I am; thunderstorms, monsoon like rain and sizzling steaks. I'll swerve the ale as I don't drink anymore, and I prefer the weather going on here right now. I'm miffed though, as all the snow's in North Yorkshire and down the east coast. As per usual, Kirklees is a sunny oasis and missing out on all the good stuff. Grrrrr Triumph

Righto, I've had a word with myself and decided to get my head down, so you enjoy the steak and beer and soak up the sun. Cheers xxx

  • My GP prescribed sleeping pills for when I have to take Dexamethasone twice weekly, some times they work and other times I am awake most.of the night but take naps in the afternoon.mj

  • Hi Jolly, and a warm welcome to our friendly little thread, though I'm sorry your myeloma treatment brings you here. Corticosteroids certainly impact your sleep my friend, and it can be difficult finding the right sleeping pills and dose to take, as one days dose can be useless the next, so work with your doctor to find what works best for you, I'm sure you know Dexamethasone is best taken early in the day after a meal, but melatonin supplements can help too, but always check with your doctor first. Well from one Northerner, I live in the southern place in Yorkshire, I hope you manage some sleep today, and please pop on the site whenever you want, there's usually someone around

  • Good morning Sun with face Jolly and a very warm welcome to our friendly group.

The one and only time I was given a sleeping tablet was after a caesarian, 45 years ago. I had a bad hallucination, or maybe sleep paralysis as I was awake, so never took one again. I sincerely hope they don't play that trick on you but afternoon naps are a godsend.

I hope you're doing well with your treatment and keeping warm during the cold snap. Sending you hugs xxx

  • Morning all

I slept a bit better last night but I'm still feeling rough this morning, I've dosed up with paracetamol.

We've had very noisy thunder and heavy rain this morning and it's quite dark.

you sound very organised with your travel plans, enjoy. I hope it's warmer than here Rofl

Good luck to those with appointments coming up.

  • Sorry to hear you have had to join the Awake thread, there's usually someone around to talk to.

  • Morning Gill R, I had just entered the land of nod, we're a couple of hours ahead of the UK, so I guess we sat up stargazing and chatting and lost track of time. Awww your too kind my friend, but 99% of our travelling is sat on my bfa, for which I've brought my pressure relieving cushion lol. We're about 2 hours from Greece, and the crossing has been so smooth my travelling companions are still in bed, I'm contemplating leaving them to it, as it's the sort of prank they'd do to meRofl, and absolutely visit your friends G R, though I'm guessing their not local, I hope you get to see them soon.

    Eddie xx

  • Morning Helen Blush

I'm glad you're a bit better but take it easy today and get plenty of rest. xxx

I'd better get cracking with my chores, cos the magic fairies are hiding from the cold. Why do we never get thunder? We've got blazing sun instead. Slopes off, grumbling...
