I just wanted to say hello to you all. I’m waiting for mastectomy in January, going for reconstruction ( probably an implant, but still not very sure). Still in shock after the diagnose and trying to come to terms with it all. I’m 43, based in London. Happy to connect with others:)
Hi there, Just to say I had a reconstruction in September and had one using my own body fat.. ( wouldn't work if you are really skinny. ) I am happy with my results and would happily answer any questions about it.
The mastectomy wont be nearly as bad as the diagnose was.. In my experience anyway. I had a bilateral mastectomy and the recovery both emotional and physical, was not nearly as bad as I had been expecting. I am still rather trumatized by the fact that I had cancer at all. That is the bit that I struggle with..
Good luck with whatever you decide to do. Have a good Christmas and try not to think about it too much! You will be fine!
With love from
Sukki. xx
Thank you ever so much Sukki. So lovely of you to respond!
The only flap I could use if from my buttock. More inclined towards an implant at the moment but finding it hard to decide (don't really want additional cuts but on the other hand implants carry on more risks of future procedures).
How are you getting of with the hormonal therapy? Was already told it would be the same medication in my case.
Hope you're weekend is going well
Xx
Hi lovely
just wanted to say hi and good luck for jan. Il echo what has already been said, it isn’t as bad as you imagine. By the time I got to surgery day, I was quite ready for it even though I never imagined I would be!
I didn’t actually have immediate recon so can’t help in that regard but I’m having delayed reconstruction

Hi there...
I have a few friends and one family member who had implants and they are really happy with their results too. My cousin had hers about 15 years ago and no problems.. I know they do warn of risks with future procedures, but dont think this is always the case.. It is such a difficult decision to make. I found it really hard. I can just say that for me personally, the own flesh thing was definitely the right one but I did have fat to play with!! Go with your gut!
As far as the hormonal therapy I am on tamoxifen. I have been on it for 7 weeks now I have not had any side effects yet....Fingers crossed...
Please feel free to ask me anything! I spoke to someone on this site and asked quite a few personal questions, she was great and gave me really candid answers which I am so grateful for.
Good luck with decision making! It will come to you....
Lots of love,
Sukki xxx
Thank you:). Lovely to hear that there are others...
Best of luck with your recon once you decide to have one.
Thank you Sukki for your kind reply and encouragement. Visiting my elderly parents and sharing the new at the weekend was taught but I’m feeling better. Started telling people at work now ( without mentioning the location of the cancer). Would rather have it sooner than later.
Got another consultation but nearly decided on implants.
I hope you will continue feeling good on tamoxifen. Be great to keep in touch!
Hi
Happy Christmas Eve
I had my mastectomy 29/10 and now on 2nd cycle of chemo. Just wanted to wish you all the best - the surgery for me wasn’t too bad at all . I didn’t opt to have immediate recon as this would of delay my surgery and I wanted to crack asap. Think when I do opt for recon I’ll be using my tummy fat instead of implants . Just wanted to wish you the best of luck for your surgery
Hi Wendy /
Hope you are not finding the chemo too nauseous and yucky - Assume you are having EC or FEC at the moment ?
Just wanted to let you to know there is a very active thread for those going through chemo you can find it clicking this link
December Chemo Club - The link takes you to the first page where there is a 'tips' section.
It is a rolling discussion so if you just reply to any of the messages either as an intro or to ask any questions it will be added to the latest page.
Hope this is of some help, G n' J
