NICE people should do nice things

life is unfair, I'm under no illusions

but this takes the custard cream

When i was first diagnosed it was a monumental shock to the system and I attempted to make sense of it all by Googling my prognosis, I promptly gave myself two to five years, which may or may not be the case, it had better not be because I've got a lot to do in a short space of time.

I stuck to tried and trusted sites and avoided the cancer conspiracy theorists wherever I could.

My daughter did however find a few comments...

    Biopsy #1
Monday 18 July 2016 saw another full day at the Hospital children's ward. My gorgeous boy had an ENT appointment on the Monday morning to have an endoscopy. The image was amazingly clear and showed a large mass, covering the base of tongue, left tonsil area and soft pallete area. By 2pm that afternoon he had an MRI scan done and was booked in for an emergency 2 hour Biopsy operation the following morning of Tuesday 19th under general anaesthetic. With the results due 10 days later on the following...

    Lump in throat Eshap script

Hi all, I'm all new to this and I was wondering if anybody has had the same scenario as me.

Bit of back ground info. I'm a 41 year old male, I was diagnosed last October with Hodgkin Lymphoma stage 2. I started feeling unwell beforehand with typical symptoms, weight loss, night sweats and fatigue. After having a PET scan it showed I had a large mass in my chest measuring 150mm, glands both in my chest and neck showing sinister activity.

Commence ABVD, had 2 cycles (4 treatments) then...

    Passing time...

    Saturday 25th February

It's been such a long day so far. I've been awake since 3.30am. I did get a little sleep last night but it wasn't great. I'm sitting here just passing time, it's pouring down and I'm fed up. I hate doing nothing, I'm bored, and hungry, I can't taste food so what's the point making any, plus my bones ache so I can't be bothered to stand in the kitchen to make any.

I just keep telling myself that this will wear off and I'll feel...

You lost your brother-I lost my mind

I had cancer when I was younger, I had it removed, didn't need chemotherapy etc and 15years later I'm here, no recurrence, surgical warrior scar and all.

I moved on, we didn't have support like this. We didn't have internet, coping mechanisms, we just had to carry on, forget about the past, put it in a box- mark it do not open. So my mother did her best, my family did their best. I put my feelings in a box, i put my pain in box, my anger in a box.

    But 15years later,...

    (5) Week 3 Complete - Things really come in threes???

16 down, 4 to go.!  The 3rd week kicked off really well, I had the start of the sore throat last Friday, but  today it is like chewing razor blades and trying to swallow golf balls. I can cope with pain reasonably well, and now that I am over the mask phobia, I was feeling quite pleased with myself, especially when my nurse expected to see a nervous quivering wreck at my clinic review (Monday). She was surprised at how well I had coped, as she had obviously not really looked forward to coming to the...

    Diagnosis

My brother (who has learning difficulties) was diagnosed with bowel cancer in Oct 2016. He is 62 very mild mannered but had not told anyone he was having difficulties in the toilet. He lives with my other brother who (cares for his daily needs) isn't really very clued up about things and even though he had noticed he was spending more time on the toilet hadn't mentioned this to me. I just happened to be visiting when he was on the loo and noticed he was in there a long time. I then began asking...

    Paediatrican appointment

We went back to see the Paediatrican on 13 July 2016 to discuss the blood tests that were done the previous month. Ryan's hemoglobin was low. ESR 33 and CRP had come down slightly to 25. Unfortunately he had lost more weight so the decision was made to admit him to the children's ward straight away.

The plan was to carry out an MRI scan and ultrasound as well as more blood tests. A 24 hour urine screen and temperature monitoring, to rule out a Neuroblastoma. I had absolutely no idea what...

    Travel insurance

My wife, who has been diagnosed with Stage 2 breast cancer, and who also has other issues such as diabetes type 2 and high blood pressure, was looking for reasonably priced travel insurance for a trip to the USA to see our daughter. We spent a frustrated time on such sites as GoCompare and Saga etc. looking for insurance, but nobody wanted to know (including the insurer who operates our travel insurance via our packaged bank account!), if you had a cancer diagnosis. However, we approached a company...
