    Every day is getting better

    Sunday 13th December

Every day is getting better now

They have taken out my cannula and epidural so I am freerer now and the feeling has come back in my legs and I can walk around. The catheter will be removed in the morning

They say I am doing really well

I have 5 scars from the surgery, different sizes, the largest one is about 3 inches long and hurts when I move or caught but the others are fine.

Not getting any sleep at all, it is so noisy at night.

The nights are long but the days pass quite...

    Eating again

    Saturday 12th December

I am back on normal food again, cornflakes and orange juice & tea for breakfast.

    Drinking lots of water

Chicken casserole for lunch followed by pudding and custard

I am shocked that I am eating so well and not in too much pain

    The operation

    Friday 11th December

Kay and I got to the Lister for 6.50 but had to wait around until 12.00 before anything happened. I was last on Mr Thompson's list.

I got taken down to for my epidural and anesthetic and the last thing I remembered  was it it was exactly 12.50

The next thing I remembered was waking up in the recovery ward at 5.10 and it was all over. They had done the operation with keyhole surgery I was happy that they did not have to revert to full open surgery. The operation had lasted...

There is a Vibe in the Soup: Part IV

There’s a Vibe in the Soup:  Part IV
If you have been holding your breath, you can now let it out.
    And now breath in ...
    Out … and …
Yes, you have got it .
    Slippers on.  Stoke that fire.
The Meddlesome Wife, bereft of her hero, arranges to meet a friend for a walk with the dogs.    Despite having to make several attempts to park at the assigned meeting place, and despite being absolutely soaked by the end of this walk, all this is a very ‘good thing’....

The sun has got its hat on...hip hip hip hooray!

The sun has got its hat on

    hip hip hip hooray....

    so we decided to enjoy

    every minute of this day!

    We set off wrapping presents

    in ribbons and Christmas tape

but a glass or three of sherry

left them wrinkled with a gape!

Next to deck our hall with holly

    some ivy and mistletoe

but while tottering on the ladder

    hubby's colostomy let one go!

The fire alarm above his head

    set off in shrieking mode

    which had the neighbours running

    up and down the road!

    Next to fill the kettle

    to make a cup of...

    Hospital antics

Went to see the oncologist on Wed and he admitted clive for iv fluids. He had got quite dehydrated and also had a ct scan done . They decided he needed a stent putting in straight away, as he hadn't kept much down since Sunday. They needed to check the tumour wouldn't push on his airway if he had a stent in. They didn't mention anything else they found on the scan, but it showed it was ok to go ahead. Thurs morning they put the stent in and it all went fine. The inside of his food pipe was a bit...

    Update on axillary clearance

Well haven't looked at the site much this week, have been "proper poorly", terrible cough, sound like I smoke 40 a day and very short of breath.  Saw GP this morning and have chest infection, that's a first so on antibiotics, hopefully they will kick in soon. I was supposed to go out for the day yesterday with my friend, but not well enough, just going up the stairs is leaving me breathless, another friend rang and said I sounded like a 90 year old, well feeling like that at the moment...

    Bertiebassett Dec 17th

A week has passed since we got our news that Bert was not to have his Transplant and there was nothing further in the way of curative treatment to be had.

It feels like a month so much has happened. He has spoken to the Mac Nurse at the hospital who in turn referred him to the Hospice Team and they have been out and visited arranged for all sorts of aids to help us in the house, a commode (for later when we might need it)  urine bottles in case he can't get to the toilet,  a wheelchair so we...

    Internship Experiences
This is my fourth and final week as an intern in Macmillan’s policy team and I thought that I would try and give an overview of the work that I have been involved with.
My first experience of a large office environment, it has meant relocating - briefly - from Manchester to London, early mornings and long commutes each day but definitely a rewarding experience – and hopefully I’ve been of some help to the team.
The main focus of my work has been conducting a research project on...
