I'm now well into my second cycle of chemo - just finsihed the 3-day inpatient part, and got my first outpatient appointment this Thursday.
If anything the 2nd cycle has been easier than the first - part of that was knowing what to expect, taking what I needed to the hospital, being in a smaller ward, and definittely being in better digestive health at the start. I should also acknowledge the two fine gentlemen in the ward with me who kepy me entertained - Eric 'the Bed' (81) and 'Chamois' Alan...
What a horrible and stressful morning......
Went to hospital to have the prone stereo(whatsit) mammogram and biopsy only to be told "sorry you are at the wrong hospital" despite the fact I had been told I had to go to Crawley as the East Surrey did not do prone mammogram blah blah blah.
Apparently, yes Crawley does have the prone mammogram equipment but it is still under testing so they are not taking patients for it yet. Got extremely upset but then a lovely lady sorted me out a cup...
Terence John Hamblin 1943 – 2012 Professor T Hamblin (DM, FRCP, FRCPath, FMedSci) Peacefully passed away shortly before 1.00 AM on Sunday 8th January 2012. Dr. Hamblin's biography (from his blog).
Today went quite well at the hospital. Pat made a short list of things he wanted to ask. It is what he calls his 'Aide memoire' as his memory with Parkinsons is not so good nowadays at times. We go in as a couple but it is his consultation and I only chip in is he asks me or at the end if there are any other questions that I want to ask.
The plan is to continue with the Octreotide injections and now go up to the full dose next Monday. It transpired that the blood and urine tests we were...
Rough sleep last night, well tell a lie after 2 paracetamol, 2 codeine and a diazipam I was comotose.
Managed to do something nasty to my right trapeziam (is that spelled correctly?) and couldn't lie down to sleep to slept sitting up right on the sofa.
Worked out what happened, had one of the dogs on a lead (3 legged one) while hubby threw the ball for the other two but mine took off like a bolt lightning and of course wrenched my right shoulder. Now I am in agony and have hospital this morning...
The NHS can really leave me feeling massively let down sometimes. Some say things to you that they either don't mean or they are too forgetful to actually do their jobs properly. It's just so aggravating.
Perhaps they don't realise how much we hold on to things, especially what is likely to happen next with our care. When I get told to make an appointment for 6 months time so they can run blood tests and scans, you can bet that those words will rattle around my head everyday for the next...
I received a letter today from the Phase 1 Trials, based at the Christie under Prof. M. Ranson. I am going to see them on the 18th January to find out more.
By the way, the steroids did nothing for my cough. I did add 6lbs on in 4 days and I've not bothered looking at my weight since!
I'm having stereotactic radiation therapy tomorrow.....to blast the brain tumour...
I've read up about the actual procedure and possible side effects....but what i haven't really had chance to think about...( and definately not talk about) is that I'm scared....and worried....
I keep seeing pictures of '' one flew over the cuckoo's nest''...............!
I'll be glad to get rid of the little s**t, though...its always in a bad mood and arguing with me,gives me...
2012 will hopefully be a year of new starts, new job and buying our first house together. It has also brought the realization that my cancer journey no longer started last year. It feels really strange not being able to say this time last year I was blissfully ignorant that cancer was invading my body, this time last year I was having this test, operations, walking on crutches etc, etc, etc and even more bizarre to think I am well on the way to celebrating my second anniversary.
Time continues regardless...
