Why do I feel so guilty.
I have been waiting to be well enough to have breast reconstruction following a double mastectomy early last year. The operation is planned for Monday and I am feeling really guilty about putting my lovely family through yet more worry even though they have encouraged me because I hate the way I look.I think part of the problem was I had no choice about cancer, surgery, chemo and radio and here I am about to put myself through the mill again purely for cosmetic purposes. I will then have to go do...

    Bertie Bassetts Journey through AML
We were on a much needed holiday when we got our first clue that all was not well. Bert had had Bronchitis all through our holiday and against his better judgement he went to see the Dr the day we were due to fly home. The Dr in Turkey was amazing done loads of tests and told us after only 45 mins we were told that his white cell count was really low at 1.2 and that we were to see a Dr on our arrival home. He was admitted on the 15th of September and we were given the diagnosis on the 18th the...

    Oh what a fat day!
Well, after the year that I have had, I wonder why I worry about being a few pounds overweight and having bad hair days (at least my hair is growing back, and I am back to full strength). At 36 weeks pregnant, I was diagnosed with a non-hodgkins lymphoma, the world collapsed around me, but I found an inner strength (like so many people on this site) to fight for my life and for mine and my new families future together. I got through 6 rounds of R-CHOP chemotherapy relatively unscathed, had no baby...

    A tale we can share!
Hi, Just wanted to share this amusing tale with you. Don't know if any of you have read a wonderful witty book on bowel cancer called 'saving my arse' by Mark Davis. There is a paragraph in there about his mum being off work due to stress after his diagnosis with cancer in his 30s. He went to see her and the room was full of flowers and 'get well soon' cards. He realized that he had not had any cards from work and then it struck him, what would they send.... 'don't die yet' cards, he thought he...

    look of horror
I had this look again today from someone i had not seen for a while, did the usual how are you and the family etc.I then told her that my hubby had been diagnosed with AML acute myeloid leukeamia in july and was undergoing treatment, it was then i saw the look of horror on her face,i've had this look a few times now and i am curious to know if it's due to genuine shock, surprise or they think it's a definate death sentance, which we know it's not ,maybe 30 years ago,and do other people with other...

    2nd Herceptin cycle
As I'm new to blogging I didn't know whether to post this on my original blog or write a new one. I have already posted this comment it in the wrong place! I previously said I would let 'Jayne ' know how I got on with my second cycle of herceptin. I felt very fatigued for 2 weeks following my first cycle and the Onc said it was due to a build up of chemo/radio in my system and should subside in time. I have just had my second cycle and, although feel fatigued, it's nowhere near the level it...
