    Steady As She Goes

It has been a couple of days since posting so I thought I would drop in and post an update.

The good news is that there isn't much to report. Sal is very fatigued and spends all day resting in her chair at the moment but that is the bulk of the effects of chemo 2 at the moment. This is pretty similar to cycle 1 which didn't go wrong until she started taking the antibiotic on day 5. This time the oncologist has said that she should not take any antibiotic during days 5-9. They feel that this is probbaly...

    Not Again!!!!!!

Hi I'm Elise and I am 23. I have never written a blog before but I thought it might help.

Ok where to start? When I was 13 my dad died of cancer of the oesophagus. It was hard and people at school never treated me the same after my time off grieving. Mum was my strength, we became very close like best friends. i move away when I started uni. I moved to bristol from hertfordshire. I graduated and found it hard to get on to a Post grad teaching course so I decided to become a nursing assistant...

    Second FEC

Thanks for all your comments...really helpful!

This time I didn't have the cold cap and the treatment went straight into the central line(too many years of watching ER,I know it's actually called a Port a Cath?)so I actually felt much more in control! For once.Although now I' m shedding hair about like noone's business!I keep blaming the cat.The first night after FEC all shivery and shaky but now two days on just nausea just like in pregnancy! Isn't it bizarre how poison can basically imitate a...

    my eventful and exhausting week!

Tonight I am baking a chocolate and chilli cake to take to work tomorrow.  I made banana muffins the other night, Kelly our receptionist baked a Nutella cake and we all had that for brekky today.  Mine will be lunch for tomorrow as I dont start til 1pm...the mixture had a bit of a kick so it should get everyone going for a busy afternoon ;-)).

I havent been feeling too great this week...very tired but I think I have been overdoing it with all these extra hours covering for people and rushing around...

    grateful darter

Hi folks, a very big thanks to all who blogged back to me after my little outburst.  I cetainly kept the volume up.  my favourite AC/DC track is 'A Whole Lotta Rosie; and she really did get some airtime last night. Nothing in the post about the result of my blood test, and the weekend is here so another two days will have gone. Very frustrating.  Ah well, i might give Page & Plant an outing tonight.  Darter.

  • My journey with my Dad
got told today that my dad has only weeks to live.....

My heart hurt so much upon receiving this news.  Being a carer for my Dad and also a translator for him made it hard.  I tried so hard to hold back my tears whilst delivering the news this afternoon.  I was ok until my Dad broke into tears, then that made me cry.

From when I was very young, I always thought that my Dad was indestructable and how wrong was I?  These last 6 weeks he had lost 1and a half stone and his health condition had deteriorated so quickly.

I don't know how to take these next few...

    Neulasta Injection

Chemotherapy works by killing fast growing cells in the body (cancer cells are fast growing). Normal cells then grow back after chemo whereas cancer cells don't. White blood cells are fast growing and they don't live long in the body so during chemo treatment chemo kills off the white cells. Neulasta (pegfilgrastim) is a white cell booster reducing the time that the body is left with a low white cell count and so reducing the chances of acquiring an infection.

    Neulasta is administered as a...

    darter shocked again

Hi all, kept my appointmentb at the clinic today to discuss chemo only to be told that the cancer has now spread to my left ribcage. this was like a kick in the teeth.  Hopefully in the next couple of weeks i will be assesed and, fingers crossed, be starting some treatment.  Its like taking one step forward and two back at the moment.  Im going to cheer myself up by putting on some heavy rock & roll.  Even though im a pensioner i like AC/DC, Led Zeppelin, Sabbath & Rainbow. I'll start with AC/DC...
