Hi im new to this but ever since loosing my wonderful father nearly 3 weeks ago im finding myself coming on here and reading what people are saying and going through which makes it a little bit easier for me to try and come to terms with things.
My dad was diagnosed with lung cancer january 2010 after having routine knee replacement surgery october 2009. He was never ever ill and was so extremely fit and healthy until having his knee surgery.
After surgery he got breathless and tired the only symptoms...
On Tuesday night, my partner had an allergic reaction to the platelet transfusion. His temperature skyrocketed and his oxygen levels plummetted, it was very frightening for him. The staff were terrific and managed to stabilise him. He has been put on morphine and arfron (?) since then as the bone pain has got worse. Felt very scared about this, the docs kept saying it could just be a side effect of the GCFS but today we found out that the Leukaemia is back with a vengeance. I kept hoping that our...
This week I am celebrating 2 'anniversaries'. One is good and one is not so. It was a year ago yesterday that I was diagnosed with secondary breast cancer and so far so good apart from the last 2 weeks feeling dreadfully tired. I have scans and an oncology appointment coming up at the beginning of August so unless it becomes unbearable I will wait until then to see if its anything sinister. Also 5 years ago today I met the lovely man who is now my husband. I was living in Haverhill (of all...
Hello to all my friends, I don't really know how to begin and if I make no sense then I'm sorry.Amongst the problem of my secondary breast cancer on my spine, it seems that I have an overly thick lining to my womb. anyway a biopsy of said lining came back clear but because it's not normal to have such a thickness it was suggested that they the oncology gynaecolgists would like me to have a camera inserted into the womb to have a look see.(those ladies that have had problems like this will know what...

I am properly in the system and all seems to be running smoothly so far. Apart from a bit of a tour of Northampton General trying to make sense of the lay out, all went well on Tuesday for my first appointment there setting up the radiotherapy.
It didn't take too long: a chat about the therapy, possible side effects and how the system works followed by a quick check of height and weight (shame that hospital scales seem to add a couple of kilos to what I think I am!) before going in for the CT scan...

A few weeks ago, no more,
I noticed, which had not been there before,
A blemish on the skin beside my knee.
How big was it you ask?
About like half a pea.
It wasn't a thing to worry anyone,
If I had seen it on a child
I would have said
It's just a wart - and smiled.
But when I'd passed sixty
I'd made myself a rule,
that I would have these things checked out,
And feeling quite the fool
I went off to the doctor, apologising -
But she said, no, you're right to come
Though...
Well it's over a year now since I was diagnosed, had the chemo and the tumour shrank. I've been ok until recently when I started getting niggly pains in my ribs. Saw the consultant and was sent for a bone scan. The bad news is its in the bones now. I'm seeing the consultant tomorrow to find out where and how bad and what treatment I need. However I'm still me and don't plan on leaving this earth yet awhile, I can still annoy the kids and my youngest daughter gets married in 2 weeks so needs me there...
Could anyone tell me how long is normal to wait for a partial nephrectomy? I have been to see the specialist FINALLY after nearly 4 weeks of waiting from diagnosis. After ringing my GP to send the referral because they had lost it and then waiting for the Consultant to read it before seeing me, he didnt tell me anything that I didnt already know. I have been told that Bladder cancer has a higher priority ( this I can quite understand) and that I should have an operation within 6 -8 weeks but it could...

we have had advice from doctors etc but to be honest we are still finding it hard to understand the condition, we keep getting confliciting information and communication between hospitals and departments is terrible, he goes...
