Winter Wonderland on the Online Community

The Winter Picture Festival is held every year here on the Online Community. The festival is to celebrate the season and our members’ creativity. Our members, as always, have shared some amazing photographs with all of us. We’d firstly like to say a big thank you to everyone who shared a picture and helped make the Online Community magical this December. Your pictures have spread a lot of joy and comfort across the Online Community. The Winter Picture Festival is also a great way to highlight how creativity and nature can be great for self care and your mental wellbeing.

There was a clear theme in this year’s Winter Picture Festival. This turned out to be the beauty of nature at this time of year. From snowy castles to frosted leaves, Community members took the time to showcase the world around them.

Here are some pictures we’ve highlighted, but they’re by no means the only pictures. You can view the full Winter Picture Festival thread in the “Express yourself” group. Why not make a warm drink or get cosy and take a look through?

Do you love getting out in nature where you can? You might enjoy the “Walking back to happiness” discussion thread. This was set up by the “Breast cancer” group to help inspire the community to share their walks and their progress. There’s lots of beautiful photos in the thread of rolling hills, sunsets and flowers. Anyone can join in, so please feel you can look through the thread and share your walks if you’d like to.

After a chilly walk or even just spending some time looking out the window, it’s time to get warm again. Our Community members also shared some heart-warming crafts and beautiful Christmas decorations.

If you find it helpful to be creative, why not join our “Express yourself” group? This group is a place where people talk about mental wellbeing and find support through sharing poems, craft activities, art and photography. It’s also a place just to chat.

Being creative can be a helpful way to relax and calm you down if you feel anxious. There’s lots of ways to be creative which might help with your mental health. It can also be comforting to get creative with your loved ones. One of our Online Community members and Macmillan volunteers, Wee Me, has written a blog all about creativity. Wee Me talks about what helped her. She also gives you some ideas for how you can get creative for beginners. Read her blog, “Have you tried expressing yourself? Creativity and coping with member Wee Me” on Community News.

We’d like to say a big thank you again for everyone who took part in the Winter Picture Festival 2022.

We know this time of year can be particularly difficult for many people. There’s lots of support available from Macmillan over the festive season.
