A week has passed since we got our news that Bert was not to have his Transplant and there was nothing further in the way of curative treatment to be had.

It feels like a month so much has happened. He has spoken to the Mac Nurse at the hospital who in turn referred him to the Hospice Team and they have been out and visited arranged for all sorts of aids to help us in the house, a commode (for later when we might need…

The appointment at the Haematology clinic went pretty much as expected. Bert is to have no further treatment. No more Chemo. No Chemo tablets. From here on is it will be palliative care only. Maintanence treatment will include Prophylactic antibiotics, anti fungals and antivirals. Blood Transfusions, Platelet transfusions when required.

We are still in shock I feel like someone looking in from the outside and it is all…

After yesterday I just don't know what to say. Bert was so close to getting his transplant that his Chemo had been ordered, because of his low blood counts they took another bone marrow aspiration, the one 2 weeks ago told us he was in remission but this one told us he had relapsed again. The outcome was that there can be no transplant. To say we were devastated is an understatement.

    We have an appointment tomorrow…

We arrived at the Beatson to be greeted by lovely staff, room was ready and waiting for Bert. Tea and toast were served to both of us and we were left for a little while to get settled in.

Bloods taken Hickman line checked, cleaned and redressed. Apparently they have never seen a line like it everyone had to come and check it out, as there were concerns that it may not be in the right place.

    X-ray and Echo all done…

Bert has not been good for the past week with bone pain and extreme fatigue, he is asleep for almost 20 hours a day. His feet and ankles are very swollen and he will have to go into hospital tomorrow wearing his summer sandals as it is the only thing we can get on his feet.

He is scared of what has to come from tomorrow on, Chemo will start I assume tomorrow or Tuesday and Transplant day will be the 16th Dec
