I first found myself seeking support and advice from the wonderful breast cancer community in 2016, and am now back on the roller coaster with endometrial cancer. I had a post menopausal bleed in February 2025, and was fast tracked by GP to Gynaecology where I had an ultrasound which showed thickened endometrial lining, and then a pipette biopsy. I was quite shocked to find it was cancer as my symptoms were miminal and would have been easy to ignore. There followed the usual wait for CT scans and results. At present the only first result I have is that it’s Grade 2 endometrial endometroid cancer, however I have been referred for genetic testing as there is a chance I could have Lynch syndrome
My mind set has been very different this time as back in 2016 I was so stressed and anxious, very emotional and needed short term medication to deal with the diagnosis and waiting for results and a treatment plan. I am now dealing with the situation by working on the principle that however stressed and anxious I am, it won’t change the results or the long term outcome, so I am able to remain fairly calm and take one day at a time.
Six weeks after seeing an oncology gynaecologist, I had a total laparoscopic hysterectomy on Monday, and returned home last night. A bit uncomfortable but glad to be back in my own bed. My bladder was a bit leaky yesterday when the catheter was removed and the consultant kept me in for a few extra hours to see if it would settle, which it did, however I’ve been quite incontinent a couple of times this morning. Just keep reminding myself I’m less than 48 hours post surgery so hopefully this will settle down.
Just wanted to thank everyone who has posted about their experience as I felt very prepared when I went for my operation.
Hi EJM60
Welcome to the Womb group.
I am sorry to hear of your previous breast cancer and recent diagnosis of endometrial cancer.
Am glad that you felt prepared when you went in for your surgery.
I remember how much better I felt for being back home to recover and sleeping in my own bed felt much nicer.
It's normal to feel a bit uncomfortable for the first few days- its big surgery but I found that things soon settled down.
If the incontinence continues, don't forget you can call the hospital at any time. There should be a number on your discharge paper work. Hopefully it should settle very soon. I remember everything feeling a bit tender. bruised for the first couple of days.
I wish you well for your recovery and in the meantime we are here if you need anything.
Jane
