Hey Ladies! Iam Lilly n new to the group.

I've been reading some of your posts n wondered if anyone could give me some advice? I had a hysterscocspy under GA 3 weeks ago.. Referred as urgent when out of the blue I started bleeding post menopausal.

I've not had any consultation with a GYN doc yet. After procedure they informed me I had a Endometrial Biopsy n poll removal. They said they wud write to me with the results in 2 weeks. That was 3 weeks ago... Is this normal practice? I've read some members have waited weeks due to current NHS staff shortages etc.

Also can you hurry them up with results.

Thanks Lillyx

  • Have you got a letter or a name for consultant with an email address?  For the main gynae dept, the surgical day unit or even the sister on urology. They would be able to send on to the correct ones? Has your hospital got a web page with a contact main email that you could get a direct one? Just thinking of other ways. Most of the secretaries I have dealt with tend to work office hours and not often pick up the phone- I used email a few times

  • I don't have any consultants details or email. Or Urology details.. The only number I've got is for the surgical dept.. a post op triage nurse incase you encounter any worrying symtons after procedure... I will prob try secretary again tomorrow n if no answer try surgical dept altho I think they will prob just say get in touch with secretary. Thx again

Anyways here is me moaning on when all u lovely lot are goin thru the mill.

How are you & everyone else today? X

  • Hi Emilyrose, this all sounds rather anxiety-provoking.
I was given phone numbers to two specialist on cancer nurses, who were fantastic, chased information for me, reassured me (as much as possible) and made sure I knew what was happening.

Is there any such service in your hospital?

  • I mean specialist gynae oncology nurses.

  • I don't think so.. My case has been a shambles from the outset. Even at the start when I was told by A&E doc to phone docs for them to refer me I wasn't even offered an appt.. Just told to monitor the blood loss myself. Then wen I went for pre op I just asked one question re TVS n she bit my head off by saying.. Have you not spoken to a doctor yet?

When I had hysterscocspy someone had messed up all operation times.. I didn't even know who was my consultant was.. n when I asked the nurse said I don't know

  • You are not moaning- it's natural to worry and be frustrated. I remember how I was waiting for mine. Between my original biopsy and seeing the oncologist for the first time it was a bit like being passed from pillar to post and not knowing who to contact for info.

  • If the results come back negative is there no follow up?

  • Also.. If you have a thickened endometrial lining are you at an increased risk of cancer or does it not always follow that rule?

  • I have two friends who have both recently had endometrial biopsies for post menopausal bleeding and thickened endometrial lining. One is not being followed up, just go to GP if any further symptoms. The second has to have a repeat biopsy in 6 months. Both had no cancer. So not sure what the criteria is. But I would say at the very least if you get any further symptoms straight back to GP.

  • We are not medically trained on here so I don't know, but I will pop a link here with some more info. It is something to ask about when you get your results perhaps.
