Hey Ladies! Iam Lilly n new to the group.

I've been reading some of your posts n wondered if anyone could give me some advice? I had a hysterscocspy under GA 3 weeks ago.. Referred as urgent when out of the blue I started bleeding post menopausal.

I've not had any consultation with a GYN doc yet. After procedure they informed me I had a Endometrial Biopsy n poll removal. They said they wud write to me with the results in 2 weeks. That was 3 weeks ago... Is this normal practice? I've read some members have waited weeks due to current NHS staff shortages etc.

Also can you hurry them up with results.

Thanks Lillyx

  • When I had my polyps removed with a general the surgeon just came by as I woke up and said all done, and I think that was onky because he was passing at the time

  • Different hospital do things differently. If it was me I’d call the consultant’s secretary on Monday to ask when I’d be likely to hear, it will all hinge on what day of the week the MDT meeting is.

  • Hello Lilly

    Welcome to the Online Community.

I am sorry to see that you are still waiting for your results from your endometrial biopsy. The waiting is tough.

My biopsy was done as an outpatient by a nurse specialist and I was told my results by phone the following week. I was asked at the biopsy as to whether I preferred to be given an appointment to come in for the results but I preferred the phone call. The phone call was followed up later by an appointment with my oncologist.

Sometimes the results can take longer, it all depends on how busy the pathology dept is and things like bank holidays delayed my post op pathology that took 3 1/2 weeks to come back.

Have you a phone number you can call? I was able to call the oncology nurse team and leave a message and they would call me back. This was from the original biopsy before diagnosis. Maybe you could ask for them to call you with the results- if that is something you are comfortable with or maybe just ask them when they are now expected- they may have an idea if the path lab is currently very busy.

The other thing I did was contact my GP who was able to look at my notes. A couple of times he was informed electronically the same day from oncology whereas I had a letter come through a few days later. Post is not always great at the moment. My practice nurse also was able to have a look at my notes a couple of times.

Hope this helps a bit and your results come back soon. The other thing to be aware of is that it doesn't mean bad results or good results just because its taking longer than expected- it's just the system and there seems so much variation between hospitals.

Good luck and let us know how you get on

  • Thx for your advice Jane.

The only contact numbers I have are for GYN dept & surgical day unit. I've not spoken to a consultant yet.. Only sister on Urology.. as op was thru them. Don't ask me why.. I wud ov thought it wud be on GYN unit.. Think it was to do with me having  GA.

I haven't been told a lot... They seem very reluctant.. Prob a time issue too as they seem snowed under. For e.g..iam still on waiting list for sinus surgery.. I joined that 6 months ago

I am going to try GP first then GYN dept to see if the results are bk.

    Take care

    Jillyx

  • That sounds like a good plan. The doctor may have an internal phone line they can call direct. Mine did.

I wasn't told a lot either, before results came back although I did ask the nurse specialist who did the biopsy at the time (I didn't have anaesthetic) and said that I felt it was concerning. I bled a lot during the procedure. She couldn't give me a firm result obviously as that was what the biopsy was for but she agreed it was very concerning. That helped prepare me. I didn't have a consultant to begin with. I went through a+e and then was referred for scans. When the scans identified a problem, I was phoned the next am by the oncology nurse team who got me in for the biopsy.

My friend will not mind me saying but she also had a biopsy under general and it took just over 4 weeks to come back as clear. Hopefully you will not be waiting too much longer. Let us know how you get on

  • Thx again... Will do. I initially presented at A&E after collapsing on the bus & bleeding. I was there about 8 hrs. As it was at night wen I arrived there were no GYN consultants on. I was then initially told to go bk to my GP for them to refer me.

Had a TVS... She didn't say anything then pre op for biopsy, then procedure.

All been a bit of a whirlwind TBH.. Only sooo much distracting you can do lol

  • If you click on my name, you can have a look and see my journey. I had a heavy bleed at work that came on suddenly. Couldn't get through to see my GP and in the end felt so unwell that a friend took me to A+E. I know what you mean about whirlwind. It all happens so quickly really, one minute ok and the next worrying about everything.

I tried to keep busy but there's not a lot you can do to distract yourself really. You just need the answers and it's natural to not be able to relax until you have them. Even though my results weren't what I wanted when I got them I did actually in a way feel a bit better for knowing and for being given the plan ahead. The not knowing was hard

  • Gosh.. You've had a tough time like many others on here. X

It's lovely that you are able to support n advise others on here. Well done youx

You had the hysterectomy very quickly. Is your local hospital not very busy? Also I knew nothing about Womb Cancers until this latest scare even tho my mum had EC. I've learnt so much in such a short time.

I didn't realise that there eud be some many treatments you need if it was just Stage 1?

My mum just had a hysterectomy... She doesn't talk about it much.. Just uses the good ole go to phrase.. Iam sure you will be fine.. Grrrrrrr

  • I think that I was just lucky. I had a big bleed and tried to get in to see a GP and could not do so. I then got worse and it was either an ambulance, which I didn't want or a trip to a+e. I saw a doctor there and was asked if I wanted to be admitted but I said no and I had to go back to a day clinic the following day. (I was then on the 2 week system.) There I saw a gynaecologist amongst other people who said she needed scans etc. I went home after a few hours and later got a call to go in for a scan a couple of days later. I had the scan around 5 pm and the following am I had a call from one of the nurses at the rapid access gynae oncology clinic who said she wanted me in the next day at 10 am for a biopsy and said something had shown on the ultrasound. At the biopsy she fast tracked the result and also booked me a CT scan a couple of days later. When I saw the oncologist for the first time it was about 3 1/2 weeks after the bleed. By this time I was getting some pain and felt uncomfortable. I still had some bleeding. I walked into the room and he said - you are second on my list on Monday am and we are getting it out. Surgery was 4 weeks from first bleed.

I also didn't really know anything about womb cancer before it happened to me. You soon learn though when you get into the system.

Further treatments depend on a lot of things, mine was a rarer type and more aggressive. I was lucky it was found so quickly.

Hopefully your results will come back ok but if they don't we will be here to support you.
