Just thought I would mention this in case of use to anyone else. I finished my radio and chemo late May 25, and have had changes to bowel habits, but they have improved considerably. I started getting pains in stomach area, feeling gassy, and later feeling slightly sick, all started around beginning of March this year. Went to GP she wondered about stomach ulcer and put me on Omeprazole, made me feel worse. She then sent me for endoscopy, which made me more stressed as also had my 1 year scan coming up the same time. Endoscopy showed everything normal.
i had been trying to remove different foods, trying to identify if a food could be causing it, but didn’t come up with anything conclusive. Also tried lactose free milk for couple of weeks.
anyway, I then looked up food intolerance tests, a friend of mine did one an 20 years ago, it cost me about £140, and doctors don’t seem to rate them. Mine came back with an intolerance to cows milk, molluscs, and strawberries. It also had 3 amber ones, including egg yolks, cumin/coriander/dill. Since starting using goats milk, and no strawberries I have felt so much better. I’ve also started eating foods again that I thought was causing issues, but the test said were OK. Thankfully it seems all grape varieties have the lowest score for me, so wine still allowed.
as I said just thought I would mention, Boots advertise the test.
Hi Waidh
I was the same. I have issues with food intolerances since radiotherapy. They were monitored during my check ups and I had to keep a food diary and bowel chart. I ended up with a traffic light system- red- avoid, orange- in small amounts green- normally ok.
I currently have lactose free milk and lactose free dairy and am ok with smaller amounts.
it can take time to work out what was ok and not ok and there have been changes along the way. Some foods that upset my tummy at first are now not too bad in small amounts.
If any one else is having issues there are some intolerances that can be more common after pelvic radiotherapy- lactose/fructose intolerance, SIBO etc and they can be tested for through a Late effects clinic.
Like you, my experience was that the doctors do not rate the food intolerance testing however in my personal view- anything that helps is worth a try. I'm glad it has helped you identify some of your foods.
