Last year on Carboplatin and Paclitaxel I lost all my hair. No wispy bits just all totally gone.
I’ve had 5 cycles so far of Carboplatin, Paclitaxel and Dostarlimab with my last one due next Wednesday, bloods permitting.
This time I have lost almost all my hair. My final few eyebrow hairs disappeared this week and I have a couple of eyelashes left. However I’ve noticed this last couple of cycles that patches of fine fuzz have appeared on my head which I definitely wasn’t expecting.
I’m not complaining but just wondering if anyone else has experienced this and if so do you know if it’s because of this new chemo/immunotherapy combination or have my follicles got used to the treatment now. I haven’t used cold capping as it’s not available over here in Northern Ireland.
Had first 4 of my 6 scheduled Paclitaxel and Carboplatin sessions. Hair started to fall out big time after the first so cut it all off after 2nd. Hair began evident growth by week 3 after second session. Very fine and spare but still definitely growing. Oncologist says not uncommon and might well all fall out again. Good luck with yours and with your treatment.
Yes last year I had lost it all by my 2nd cycle and it never grew until the treatment stopped. I was just surprised at it starting to grow these last few weeks. I still have a large bald patch on each temple but the rest is definitely giving Mohican vibes
It will be interesting to see what happens after the next dose.
Hi
I had carboplatin and paclitaxel in 2022 and did scalp cooling.
I had regrowth during chemo.
Even with scalp cooling there is shedding and I lost some each cycle- around day 14- however I did notice regrowth.
When chemo finished I had hair of all different lengths. My eyebrows and eye lashes came back pretty quickly after chemo ended but I did lose them again a few weeks later.
From my understanding it is the paclitaxel that commonly causes the hair loss- maybe there was a difference in doseage this time due to the addition of the immunotherapy drug?
Good luck for Wednesday- hope it goes well for you.
Jane
I just finished round 4 of paclitaxel and Herceptin for a recurrence of Serous Endometrial Sarcoma. I had to stop the Carboplatin after an allergic reaction during the second round of Taxol, Carboplatin and Herceptin (Trastumuzab). My hair mostly went after round 2 but I had more hair left this time than I did during my initial treatment. I still have thinning eyebrows and eyelashes and patchy, thin hair on my head. I wear wigs because I don’t want to look like a cancer patient. It works well except when I go swimming. I have a swim cap that I used yesterday to cover my scalp. The swim cap under a sun hat might have looked odd but worked for me.
i hope your treats are going well.
