Thank you to everyone who has given me such wonderful support over the last few weeks it's been a bit of a roller coaster.

I had my histology results yesterday with my consultant. It was the best news that I could have hoped for. After being told the morning after my operation that although my lymph nodes looked normal on the CT scan, they showed up as enlarged during the operation so I was expecting to hear that it had spread.

The staging I have been given is 1A which means that the cancer hasnt left the wall of the womb. Iam Grd 3 serous. All of this was a relief.  Now for the not so good news... The peritoneal wash showed some cells so he wants me to have chemotherapy as soon as possible, he said that the Oncologist will talk to me about the plan of action and that i would possibly also by some radiotherapy.  I have my first appointment with Oncology on the 9th May.

My hospital does do cold cap chemo so I'm going to give it a try.

  • Great news Robin, good they are on the ball about starting Chemo soon.  I am glad you are going to try cold Cap! It will feel really cold to the fact you will think about changing your mind! But bear with it as it's only very very cold during the first 15 or 20 mins then you do acclimatise to it.  Just make sure they put right size on. The first time they put on medium Cap, the second time they put on a small cap and convinced me it was my right size, I didn't question it but during the day I kept touching the front top of it and I noticed it wasn't making good contact with the scalp, this I'm afraid is where I've gone a bit patchy, but I've still got a lot of hair at the back, so I now wear a headband but also have a good wig in preparation.  I'll see how much I lose this time after third Chemo. Hopefully the most hair loss is cycle one and two. One younger lady who just finished her last sixth cycle has already seen new hair growth after using cold Cap.

Be prepared to lose some hair, everyone does with cold Cap and they make no  claim that you won't lose hair, but if you have a good head of hair then it's worth trying.

  • Thank you Mad great tip about making sure the cap fits properly.

I currently have hair just below my shoulders but plan to have it cut much shorter prior to the chemo starting.

I don't know where to start looking into getting a wig to be honest. Do you advise holding fire purchasing one incase the cold cap works?

  • Hi . Good news it was stage 1A. I also had some cells in my peritoneal wash.

I'm glad you're being offered chemo. Don't forget to take a look at the Chemotherapy support thread where you can read about tips and possible side effects.

    Big hugs, Barb xx

Seems weird to say I am happy for you...but for what it is...I am.  I'm sorry about the wash.....But, glad you are feeling uplifted!

  • Yes good idea if you have a lot of hair or it's long because it needs to be tucked under the cold gel cap and the gel Cap needs to make good contact with scalp. They put conditioner on your hair to dampen it down. I bought paraben and sulphate free conditioner and shampoo as its less stressful to the hair whilst it's going through treatment.

As for the wig I would hold off as you may not need one but if you ask Macmillan Nurse at your hospital they recommend certain salons and give you a voucher towards a wig. I got  £100 off the cost of a wig.

    Hope this helps you Xx

  • Fantastic news Robin - so positive, it’s another step towards recovery, I got mine too and because it had gone to cervix I’m grade 3 stage 2 although lymph nodes peritoneum and omentum were all clear, but the complication is there were mixed serous and clear cells. I have my first oncology appointment on Tuesday to discuss plan but definitely both chemo and radiotherapy

    We will get there

    huge hugs
