Hi how long was it before you went on a short car ride eg to park etc ?
My hospital was nearly an hour away, so I had to go in the car the day after surgery, I had a pillow to protect my tummy from the belt, so I would say go for it if you feel like getting out.
I left it about a week so everything had a chance to settle. Some people have no choice and have to travel sooner some later, I would agree with B74 protect your tummy and go with the flow.
Like B74 my first journey was a drive home from the hospital which was about an hour too. I had a pillow that covered my tummy and I put my seat belt over that. I also sat on a pillow.
I think I left it for about a week or two when I was walking about a bit better.
Hi Shirleydana, my husband drove me home from the hospital the day after my op - took my tummy and the journey was an hour, so I didn’t have any issues with going out in the car right away. Went out for drives from day 3 onwards. Went out with Dave to lunch on day 6 post op, a 15 min gentle dog walk in the nearby New Forest on day 8, church and then lunch on day 9, and then a short supermarket shop on day 11, and then a half hour dog walk in the Forest with a sit down on a fallen tree half way round on day 12. I listened to my body and went for it when I felt like it, and rested when I needed to, but was desperate to get back to some kind of “normality”.
Yes we went to breakfast at a little cafe yesterday took our puppy it was lovely it’s 5 min drive x today we are going for a scone and hot choc at John Lewis cafe it’s a short walk from the car park just been walking slower, walked around the block yesterday and day before and sat in the garden with some music on that was lovely x I want to feel normal again and I am as the pain has really dropped now so just feel pulling feelings when getting up and sneezing ! I thought maybe one of the gyny nurses might have rang me but nothing yet only the nurse off the ward on Monday x
Because I’d already had a c section I was familiar with the twinges and pulling feelings and knew that they were nothing to worry about - just the muscles etc a bit pulled and needing to get strong again, which happens by being used! So being active is the best way, as is standing up straight not stopping. When I felt the pull when I got up I flexed my stomach muscles to help tighten them and make them stronger.
