Hello I have my op tomorrow morning and so nervous and anxious about the whole thing, last time I had surgery was dec 2018 and it was fibroid removal I hate the bit as you go to the theatre and everyone is around you, I am having the robotic op at Christie’s who I know are amazing I don’t know what to eat today or anything and been doing relaxation on you tube which has helped, also been bleeding which makes me scared it’s spread it’s grade 3 endometriod cancer and stage 1a he’s taking sentinel node biopsy so scared it’s spread any advise would be much appreciate lots of love xxxx

  • Hi ,

I was exactly the same couldn't sleep for overthinking  but just kept inmy head it was going to get rid of whatever was in there.

I couldn't not have it done as to me it was the only option and once I  was in hospital I just needed it to be done and I would deal with  whatever afterwards, Mine was grade 3 stage 1a and I worried about the sentinel glands  but at least afterwards they will have  a fuller picture and the results come quick , good luck for tomorrow and let us know how things go on xx

  • Thank you so much for your reply, did your stage and grade remain the same ? X I think I will be ok when I arrive at 7 am and I am going down by 8.30 am, did you have the robotic one x

  • Hi

Your feelings are perfectly understandable - I was nervous too. But I remember thinking at last this op will be over and done with. It's the waiting part isn't it that is always the worst!

My recovery from laparascopic surgery was surprisingly good and the relief was amazing to feel.

Today I would go for a walk in the fresh air and you will see signs of Spring everywhere.  I have seen daffodils, crocus and snowdrops in the most random places. It's a miracle the way they pop up year after year.

Try watching your favourite comedy series- I love FridayNight Dinner and it's on More 4. It never fails to make me laugh.

If you're not very hungry, make an omelette which is nourishing and will fill you up. Drink plenty of water. Check your bag has everything you need and pop in a pack of baby wipes (if you haven't already). I found they were really refreshing for face and hands post op.

Tomorrow this will all be over and as  says: concentrate on the "What is" not the "What ifs". That has become a mantra for me thabk you  .

You have got this and we are with you.

    Kxx

  • Did your stage and grade stay the same ? Just keep wishing I had it all removed years ago when I had fibroid and heavy bleeding x I do like Friday night dinner thanks Slight smile I am am upbeat person and still like to have a laugh and joke I just can’t wait to come round and all be ok xxx apparantly the surgeon comes to tell you how it went and what he thought and they scared me too

i just don’t know what to eat today so it doesn’t affect me tomorrow with the op

    xx

  • Hi I was told to eat and drink as normal - but you may not feel like it so the omelette suggestion is a great one. I went for a long walk the day before my op - and although nervous, kept thinking how good it was that it would be sorted the next day. It’s great that your op is 8.30 - I had to wait till late afternoon- but still felt reasonably ok by the evening. Mine all stayed the same which I think is what usually happens.

  • Hi thank you feeling so much happier talking to you all on here as you all understand it, what was it like when you came round ? They said I will have oxygen mask on, hubby can visit 2-3 so hoping I be finished by then and out xx

  • When I came round I was chatting away to the nurses in recovery. I was so relieved and happy. I remember waving at people when they wheeled me back to the ward.

I know - it's mad isn't it! I blame the painkillers they gave me.

    Xx

  • Oh my that’s made me smile how sweet is that xx did you feel sick or rough and do you remember the recovery room, aww really made me feel less anxious your reply x

  • Hi I had an epidural as well - think because doctor need to examine me to see if laprascopic was possible- mine was then abdominal. I’d been warned beforehand that this was a possibility so don’t worry about that! I was completely alert almost immediately- back on ward less than hour after surgery. understand GA lighter if epidural though.

even with abdominal my recovery has been good. It was 4 weeks today, and can easily walk for an hour now with no discomfort.

  • Hi Shirleydana, the before bit is always worse than the actual thing, I find. For me, I walked down to theatre with my anaesthetist and there was just her and a nurse in the room. I got comfortable on the table, breathed from the little mask and I went to sleep. The day before my op I had a light diet and had my main meal at lunchtime and just fruit and toast for tea so that I’d be sure to have my main poo that evening. I figured that the less that was in my bowel pre op the less there would be in there after and hopefully make the first post op poo easier! Do you have everything packed? Including your favourite snacks and maybe some squash too? I got up at 5am on op day, had a shower, and then my taxi came for me about 6.20am.
