I’ve been told my cancer has spread to the chest. A phone call yesterday. I’m in bits. Waiting on MRI and then to see oncology. It’s aggressive and has grown quickly. Can anyone offer me hope?

Hi Suewoo welcome to the forum, I am conscious that sometimes the site can be a bit quieter at weekends and didnt want your  post to go unanswered.

I am sorry to hear your news but I can only say to hang onto hope as they are making great strides now with Cancer treatments even for the moist aggressive types of Cancer so hang onto that thought. Hope is all that any of us have and its not always easy to hang onto to it sometimes, but hang on we must  you hang in there and keep those spirits up until you know exactly what the plan is for you and it sounds like there is a part of a plan so hang on to that as well. It may not be easy but we are here for you.   xxxx

  • Hello Suewoo

Am so sorry to hear this news. I remember that your op was cancelled and had hoped by now you would have had a plan for what would happen next. It must have been a shock to have the phone call yesterday.

Although there has been spread to your chest, I hope that the MRI will be able to give some hope that although it might not be curable - that there may be some treatment that could help. When I discussed with my oncologist about potential treatment if I had a recurrence she mentioned further surgery, chemo or immunotherapy. Please do not give up hope.

I hope that your MRI is done quickly and that the oncologist will be able to give you some new treatment options.

    Hang in there,

In the mean time if you feel you need to talk to someone- please call the support line as they will understand.

    Hi

Hello, I saw your post the other day to say that your surgery had been cancelled. I'm sorry to hear that you've been told you are now Stage 4. I know exactly how you feel, when I was told I was shocked and felt like the end was imminent. I am still here and was told I was stage 4 April last year. My cancer is aggressive. If you would like to read my profile, please click on my username.

It may help you to join our incurables group, this is the link  Living with incurable cancer forum - patients only

It is a lovely group of people, there are a lot of characters, we like a laugh, usually dark humour but most of all, everyone knows how you feel. We all have different cancers but we are all incurable. There are lots of people in the group that say they are past their sell by date, which means they have outlived their prognosis. There is all sorts going on, book club, gardening, art group etc.

Please don't think I am dismissing your fears or trying to distract you. Until you know what the oncologist can offer in terms of treatment, you don't fully know your outlook. Also, I was told by my CNS that aggressive cancer responds better to chemo. Hang on in there, join our group, you'll get a warm welcome. Hope you get a treatment plan soon.

    A x
