Hello, there: I am going to the hospital for a hysterectomy (they say day surgery). I remember that someone had a list or ideas about what to take to the hospital? I have never been in a UK hospital (I am new to this fair land). The hospital is University College Hospital London. May I ask for ideas on what to take? Example: Do I have to take a dressing gown? Thank you. From Robin
Hi RobinLondoner There is a thread here which is pretty comprehensive:
What to take in my overnight bag
Hopefully that will help you. You will definitely need a dressing gown for your modesty as you don't want to be walking down the hospital corridors with your bottom out! After surgery you'll be able to put your own nighty/PJs on. Hope that helps! Emma
Hi Robin
I'm attaching this thread What to take in my over night bag. It's become a bit long winded LOL but it's helpful!
Yes, you should take a dressing gown - to preserve your dignity if you only have a hospital gown!
If you've any other questions, fire away

Robin even though the aim is day surgery I’d recommend taking enough in case you need to stay overnight as it can happen. You’ll need a dressing gown pre surgery and slippers can be useful then too
So helpful. Thank you everyone! I have a list. I do well with lists!
Hi RobinLondoner, if you have not done this already, ask your CNS (or hospital team) for advice on what to do and not do after the operation, as your activities will be restricted for a while, so you can start to plan around things. e.g. no heavy lifting, no driving. Especially important to plan for this if you live alone. I needed help for a few weeks with things like emptying the bin, changing the bedclothes, carrying my shopping bags, and a few other things. Also useful to let your partner/housemate/family know what they need help with. Good luck. LR.
