Hi Chrissy72 . I had exact same diagnosis last June , had full hysterectomy followed by 25 sessions of external radiotherapy. I was told this was a precaution and didn’t need bracatherapy . Like you I googled LVSI as didn’t feel it was explained enough to me , at my first follow up after my treatment I expressed my concern and the consultant said Oh don’t worry about that !! I am on 3 monthly check ups although the last one was delayed due to Covid . I would also be interested to hear if any other ladies had LVSI in their diagnosis and how it was explained to them .

  • Thank you Renby

When you google it it is frightening.  I know you shouldn't but cant help it sometimes!

I had already made my mind up to call oncologists secretary on Monday to query having outer radiotherapy.  You feel that you want to do everything possible....

    Many thanks x

  • HI

After Hysterectomy I was confirmed with Type 1, Stage 1a, Grade 2 and with LVSI.  I had never heard of LVSI, didn't get much explanation,  and googling it (never advised) said it was bad news!  I was 76 years old and advised to have both external and internal radiotherapy.  I was quite shocked to hear this as i felt so well after the operation and was really looking forward to returning to a normal way of life NOT 5/6 weeks of travel and treatment.  I have since gathered from various reports and from reading  other peoples experiences on this forum, that the specific treatment advised is affected by many factors for each individual patient.  You don't mention your age Chrissy, (unless the 72 is intended as a clue) or the type of your endometrial cancer and these are both factors that are taken into consideration, particularly when it come to recommending  RT .

The good news is that that was FIVE years ago and just last week I was discharged by my oncologist after a final (telephone) consultation!   I can't say I am as fit now as I was pre-cancer but I blame that on the fact I am now over 80 and at that age every year counts.

Hi oldady , so good to read you have now been discharged by your oncologist . I was 60 and was grade 1  , stage 1b . I agree with you that the treatment plan seems to be dependant on grade , type etc . The radiologist told me that bracatherapy was not needed as the external RT would cover the area needed . I think if I had been grade 2 like yourself then I would have had bracatherapy too. I still think LVSI should be better explained to stop us ladies googling !

  • Hi Olday

Yes I am 72 and full diagnosis is Stage 1b Grade 1 Endometrioid Adenocarcinoma LVS1 also foci was mentioned.  Haven't a clue what that is cant find anything about it.

    Thank you x

  • I think also different centres use different protocols.  At my first meeting after surgery I was told I would not have  brachy.  However I was given a choice of two centres for my RT and chose a London hospital because transport to it was easier and it meant I would be able to continue to do many of my planned activities during the treatment period.  At this hospital they said they thought  the brachy was valuable.  Personal opinion or a research study - who knows?  I think the total RT dose would be the same just distributed in a different way.

  • Also is everyone's Endometrioid cancer called Adenocarcinoma?

  • I think the short answer is yes.   Adenocarcinoma is a cancer of  a certain type of cell that exists in various organs of the body.  Our cancer is an adenocarcinoma of the endometrium .  It seems to be the most common type of womb cancer, not particularly aggressive and usually successfully treated.

  • Hi Chrissy

In medical terms Foci is the plural of focus. Where something started.

My LVSI was zero. (Lymphovascular Space Invasion)I think that's I had Brachytherapy as opposed to external radiotherapy/chemo
