Hi Everyone, Well it’s stage1 and at the moment it’s looking as if all I’ll be needing is the hysterectomy, they are hoping to do keyhole surgery. They’ve also found the ovarian cyst I was diagnosed with about 10 years ago and they are hoping that it’s not too big to be removed during the keyhole surgery or they will need to do a small incision. He wanted to show me pictures of the cyst but his computer was acting up, thank heaven. They’re talking mid November for my surgery, but that’s still to be confirmed. I’m off to have a cuppa and my last choccie biscuit before I start eating healthily to prepare for the surgery.

Hi Abs,
That all sounds quite positive, and you will be rid of the cyst as well!!! I had keyhole surgery, and was amazed at how quickly I healed, even at 72. I still took it easy, as I did not want any repeat visits to hospital!!! I know how you feel about not wanting to see pictures. My consultant insisted on drawing me a diagram of what they would do and where!!! I didn't care as long as they got rid!!!! Good luck. xxx
Hi Angie.
That's absolutely brilliant news, all that worrying was for nothing! I'm so pleased for you. I do hope you have keyhole - It makes life a lot easier and if they can whip the cyst out at the same time great!
I'm post op 4 weeks today, Start Brachytherapy 2 weeks today, just hoping Covid doesn't put a spanner in the works. Back to driving, even hoovered the rug today but still will not lift anything heavy - I can't wait to give my 17 year old Jack Russell a proper cuddle but at the 'mo it's only when he's put next to me on the couch I can.(Notice I only want to cuddle the Jack Russell.
Next bit of good news will be if the car's not going to cost too much!
Take care, big hugs, Barb xx

Thank you NannyAnny, My consultant was like a kid in a toy shop when he was talking about the cyst and desperate to show me the picture. I don’t think I’ve ever been more grateful for a computer not working properly. The only thing that might scupper the keyhole surgery is the size of the cyst as apparently it’s the size of a baby’s head. I’m not too bothered how they get it out just as long as they do.

Hi Barb, Yep I was so chuffed when he told me I felt like giving him a hug but obviously couldn’t. I’m just hoping the blooming cyst doesn’t cause grief, they’re worried it might be too big to remove through keyhole surgery. It’s benign but has tripled in size over the ten years it’s been there. My MacMillan nurse, who is also called Angie, says the cyst is probably the source of a lot of the pain I’ve been experiencing.
Hey I don’t blame you for only wanting to cuddle your Jack Russell, they’re warmer, cuddlier and less grumpy than any man I’ve met. I’m crossing everything I can where the cars concerned, either that or I need to win the lottery. You sound as if you’re doing great. I know what you mean about Covid that’s the reason I can’t have the surgery at my local hospital. They’ve allocated a lot of their beds to Covid patients. The consultant said that I could have surgery there but I wouldn’t be seen until the back end of December. So I’m quite happy to go to Edinburgh, it’s not as if I’m going to be in long and I can’t have visitors anyway. I hope your treatment doesn’t get delayed because of Covid, its not good prepping yourself for something and then it doesn’t happen.

Hi Abs,
Don't want to dampen your spirits, but my eldest daughter had an ovarian cyst removed. She had a lot of trouble with her bladder and the doctor said it was a UTI, and treated her about 3 times for that. Turns out the cyst was the size of an orange and pressing on her bladder. She was doubled up in pain at times. Maybe it was because she kept her womb, but they had to cut her tummy to get it out. Years later she had a child with the one ovary! xxxxx
Hi NannyAnny, Your not dampening my spirits, your just keeping things grounded for me. I think it’s maybe the consultants optimism rubbing off on me. They’re talking about it being removed via the vagina and it’s been 40 years since I last gave birth so if nothing else it’ll be interesting to see if the procedure they are planning works. As long as they get rid of it I’ll be happy, a few extra days in hospital isn’t going to make that much of a difference in the long run.

Hi Abs,
I think its best to have an optimistic consultant. It makes such a difference. I had both ovaries and tubes taken away with the womb via keyhole, so I don't see why it shouldn't work for you!! I think things are easier if you have given birth, as well. xxxxx
Hi NannyAnny, Yes the consultant did say that having delivered naturally with my two does help. I told him that was good to hear but I just hoped that my body wasn’t prone to senior moments like me and forgot how to deal with it, as it was a fair old time ago. He just laughed and said I didn’t need to worry about that as this time round someone else was doing the work. I’m not sure what is going to happen surgery wise on the day but I do know it’s not going to be boring with the consultant I’ve got, hey it might even be fun
Notice that I said might
