Preparing for Vulvar Biopsy

Hi all, I'm scheduled for a vulvar biopsy on Nov. 6th and I just have a couple questions for others who have gone through the procedure. I'm nervous and want to be prepared.

About how long did it take you to recover? Do you have to do anything special when you shower? Is there anything in particular that helped during biopsy recovery? How bad is the pain afterwards?

I apologize I have so many questions, this is my first time getting a biopsy, this is actually my first time even going to the gynecologist. I'm very nervous. Hopefully it will go smoothly and any advice is much appreciated Heart

  • Hi, Ive had to have a couple of biopsies and please don't worry to much.. When the doctor took the biopsies I  didn't find it painful at all. There is a bit of bleeding afterwards but they sent me home  wearing a thick pad and I was fine.It hurts a bit for a few days and I just used a bit of water from a shower head. But after around a week I was fine to have a bath. Also I know you said you never been to that sort of doctor before, but please don't get embarrassed because they are doing this sort of thing every day. The best of luck, and sending hugs xxxx

  • Hi, I felt the same as you before my vulva biopsy too.  A local anaesthetic was injected and the support nurse held my hand and I squeezed it as hard as needed.  The biopsy itself didn’t hurt.  I was advised to take sanitary pads with me, which was needed as there was slight bleeding.  Dissolving stitches were used and was told they should disappear in 7/10 days, but it took longer than that.  I showered the area the next day as normal and just patted dry.  It was comfortable for a while, especially walking but suppose it depends where in the area your biopsy will be taken.

    i hope all goes well.
