My Wife’s (Shirley) journey started in December 2012 with a diagnosis of a cancerous lump on her breast bone. She had surgery about 2 weeks after the diagnosis, followed by 18 weeks of chemo and then 3 weeks of radiotherapy which took her up to the middle of June 2013.

All had been well up until March 2016 when she found a change in her left breast; she went for the check up and the surgeon confirmed she had BC again she had a mastectomy a few weeks later, after the mastectomy she had to have a further three more operations as the cancer cells kept presenting in the scar tissue at the mastectomy site. She is now on Eribulin this is the 5th type of chemo. The cancer has spread to her lymph nodes on the right side and she has also developed fluid around the lungs which her consultant has to assume there will be some cancer cell in.

Chemo she has had.

2013 FEC (Flurorouracil,Epirubicin,Cyclophophamide)

2016 Paclitaxel

2017 Capecitabine

2018-19 Carboplatin

2019 Eribulin (She has been told she will be this treatment UFN)

All the time she has been going through this treatment she has never complained and been so amazingly strong.

  • Hello

Welcome and lovely to see that you are posting here, although equally I am sorry it as a result of Shirley's breast cancer.

She sounds an amazing woman and you sound as if you are incredibly proud of her.  Any questions you or she have, then don't hesitate to ask - although I get the impression from her long list/ many years of treatment, you and Shirley probably have an incredible knowledge of treatments, probably far more than many others.

For you, because those of us on these groups are the ones undergoing the treatment, you may find that the family and friends group could also prove to be a great support. For all the best will in the world, we can't understand what it is like for you watching your loved one undergo so much.  (click the green link).  You can join as many groups as you like.

    Kindest wishes,

Thanks for your welcome comment and advice.

Last Wednesday my wife’s consultant stopped her latest chemo regime as it was not working. Today she got the results of a ct scan she had last Wednesday the cancer has spread slightly and she is starting on an oral form of chemo starting tomorrow. Surgery is not an option and radiotherapy can only be used in a limited area. The best they can hope for is to slow the disease.

  • Oh  I'm so sorry..... there are some on this forum doing well on the newer treatments,  but there are also threads about dealing with the side effects through diet etc..

Could you post this on the main Breast Cancer thread (where everyone goes) which is much busier than this one,  and there will be some ladies with stage 4 breast cancer there who might be able to share with you some of their experiences on the new chemo?

Hugs to both of you,  and positive thoughts that the new one will help. Xx
