TNBC tumor over 5cm experiences?

Hi everyone, I’ve recently been diagnosed with TNBC in my early 40s, massive shock as no particular risk factors/ family history. I’m starting chemo next week (carboplatin/ paclitaxel plus pembrolizumab for 13 weeks, then EC), but the tumor has already over doubled in size from when I first felt it, and is now over 5cm, and 8cm including some dodgy margins which may or may not be problematic… Given I’m only a 32B, it’s basically taken over my entire boob and is incredibly painful. I’d be really keen to hear from anyone else who had a similarly large tumor, and how it responded to chemo - I’ve seen a lot of posts talking about tumours under 2cm, but worryingly few with large tumours… Thanks so much in advance.

  • Hi I was the same as you my main tumour,  I have 2 areas in the breast started as just under 2 cm in October, by the time I started chemotherapy 10th December it had gone to just over 3cm and nearer 6 with margins, i also have dcis just beside it, however it was very visible especially after all the biopsies.

I have completed 7 weeks of treatment and it has reduced to 1.9cm and is responding well to treatment.

Try to just focus on your treatment and make sure that you rest and ask for help if you need it, I have health anxiety and the first few weeks I was so scared of treatment but actually I have very fBlush side effects Blush

Everyone's journey is similar and yet unique to them but its good to talk.

  • Hi, I found a lump 18.12.25 which was 53mm it is tnbc and I have had a CT scan and an MRI and after being told it is aggressive it’s nearly been 2 months and I am going out my mind as I just want and need to start treatment!!

  • That sounds really stressful, I’m sorry. I had heard that the wait times can depend a bit on where you live, really hope you get treatment booked in soon. The consultant also said that they prioritise people for starting chemo partly on how quickly it’s growing/ spreading rather than size per se - mine had doubled in size in 2.5 weeks Grimacing

  • Hello Slight smile I am in the same position of you in that I found a lump on 30.12.25, diagnosed on 22.01.25 with 22mm TNBC ... awaiting results of a PET CT scan and despite being a positive person, I have convinced myself that it has spread as my breast hurts so much, shooting pains constantly and I daren't feel the lump now as it has definitely increased in size ... I now have swelling between my breasts as well ... I understand the process and the team having to have all information to-hand to put a treatment plan in place, but TNBC ... the timeframe is everything ...

  • I hope that you are ok, and that your path to treatment is moving forward Slight smile
