Hello everyone. I've just been told on Tuesday 20th I have suspected testicular cancer. I'm in for orchiectomy next Wednesday.

I'm a pesimist so wasn't all that shocked when told. I'd prepared myself for it. But my anxiety is running high now. It seems I'm suddenly suffering with back ache and any minor pain is causing me to jump to conclusions that it's spread etc.

I'm trying not to get ahead of myself and let my mind race but as I'm sure you will all know its very difficult not too.

Just wanted to post and introduce myself to the forum. I imagine il be quite active here as it will be helpful to be able to vent once in a while.

Anyway.. il keep you all posted on how I get on.

  • Hello  and welcome to the community although sorry to hear of your diagnosis. I am not from this group so not much help but I know how the early days of uncertainty and not knowing can be. Things tend to get slightly easier when you have a treatment plan in place and something positive to focus on. I am sure the group members here will be able to answer any questions you may have. Best wishes.

    Best wishes to All,   rily.

  • Hi Camino

Sorry to hear about your current situation.   It sounds like they are acting promptly which is a good thing.  I think you posted elsewhere so are aware the lab results are likely to be 2-3 weeks depending on where you are in the world.   I think mine were a couple of weeks or so post op. In the UK.

After the shock of the initial diagnosis and the op, the  waiting is challenging in itself.   I found talking about it with people you trust helpful.  Although this can be difficult too, I found it got easier the more I did it.

You may have read this elsewhere but I was fairly uncomfortable for a good few days after the op. I didn’t need any fancy pain killers, i think I took some paracetomol to help.  I was older, in my 50’s so probably took longer to heal!

I guess you were asked by the Consultant /nurse but I didn’t have a “false” one put in.  It’s personal of course but I didnt want any further complications and felt one real one would do…

Good luck for Wednesday and trust the process.

  • Thanks for your reply topcat.  Yes I read that's the approx wait time but it wasnt clear if thats for pathology of the cancer or ct results?

I did read that some people have a CT before ochiectomy and some a few weeks after surgery. I'm in for pre op/assessment tomorrow so will find out then I imagine?

I thought I'd hold off telling my parents as my mam is currently receiving treatment for lung cancer and I don't want to worry her. Trouble is I also don't want to lie to her. If I get scan pre op and results in a few weeks I may hold out but if I'm to get a ct weeks after the ocrhiectomy it could be 1 month+ before I find out if its spread etc in which case I can't keep it from them that long.

I'm currently in pain which has seemed to come on in the last day so I feel like I'm ready to just be rid of it and then post op il see how I am and use paracetamol etc too as im not keep on taking medication of any form really.. I'm one of them who'll struggle with a headache all day before finally having a single paracetamol before bed. Ha

I haven't talked to any nurse/consultant yet but I think I may opt for a fake one. For reference I've just turned 41 and in the UK also.
