Hi all,
Still pretty new to this. Had a left orchiectomy in late May 25 for a stage 1 seminoma tumor. All thankfully seems to have gone well cancer wise. Although the scar is healed it is still quite distinctively noticeable and pink. My oncology consultant says that after 6 months its likely that is how it will stay. I am 26 and quite self conscious of the scar and how obvious it is. Does anyone know if the scar will still settle and heal after 6 months or have any ways to help improve it from being less visible.
Any help is appreciated. Thanks :)
Hiya,
I am a 17 year old and have recently had laparotomy a little while ago due to sertoli leydig cell tumour (ovarian cancer). I too have been quite self conscious about my scar as it is quite large and dark but I have found a couple of things that have been helping. I have been using bio oil on my scar twice a day and has reduced the colouring of it quite a bit. I have also been using the Elastoplast scar reducer tape which has been AMAZING - it reduces both the colouring and flattens the scar down if it's elevated like mine was.
I hope this helps and happy healing!!
Hi CT
i am glad your cancer treatment has gone well.
As to the scar…. I felt mine was very prominent in the first few months and did wonder what would happen over time. It has definitely become less prominent and I think it was maybe beyond 6 months before it “stopped” improving. I think I used some bio oil on it but didn’t do it too much.
I would add that some of it can be because we are thinking about it a lot in the earlier time after diagnosis and surgery. I know I was and that does fade somewhat over time.
We are all different and all had a different surgeon too which can make a difference to the outcome. I remember asking my wife about how it looked from a distance (getting changed at the gym type distance ) - both the scar and the missing “part”! And she would say … looks no different.. I didnt believe her initially but as time goes by I think she was right….
Good luck with your recovery it’s still quite early days. I am about two years out now and in surveillance.
