Hi all,

I've just come back from out of hours Dr. He found a 2/ 3cm lump attached to my left testicle and says I will be put on the 2 week rule to check for cancer.

I've been in pain with my back for 5 days and 2 days ago my left testicle has been painful with a dragging pain.

I have varicocele for the last year and thought it was something to do with the pain. So today was such a shock .

Can someone tell me what to expect now and what tests should I make sure I have.

Thank you in advance

  • Hi Steven , I've gone through the same as what your going through and it is a big shock that sends your thinking into overdrive!
One thing I would say is when you go onto the two week cancer checks , I found the NHS were brilliant. They know what you're going through and I found that having the Macmillan nurses to help you through the whole process and will be with you 100% .
My story is not everyone's but I hope it'll give you an idea of what to expect.

You will be contacted by the hospital and start to get more checks done like CT scans , I had MRI  and ultrasound  scan . I had a small day op called a Orchiectomy , removal of the testicle so the tumour can be removed from the body asap and sent away to be tested to find out what type of cancer the tumour is . This will be examined in a lab asap and that will determine your future treatment .
I hope this helps you at least be prepared for the next few weeks , and don't forget to get in contact once your at the hospital with the Macmillian nurses, they will probably know your attending anyway .

    Best wishes and good luck

  • Hi Steve

it is a scary time.  Mark has covered it off but I will add a couple of bits from my point of view having been through it too.

Things happened quickly for me.. GP appt then a hospital appt for an ultrasound in a few days.   Consultant urologist appt then.  Bit,of a formality having blood tests but it usually happens. My blood markers were clear and tumour was 37mm. We are all different.    I was booked, for surgery there and then, took a couple,of weeks for the op as I recall. They don’t biopsy for TC…. risk of spreading plus we have two to start with!

Op to remove then wait for the lab to say what it is as Mark mentioned.   Any next steps ( if required) come after that part.   Have a read through here as there were some questions asked quite recently about post op recovery etc.

This place helped me when I was where you are now so have a good read through others posts, it can be helpful.

Good luck for the next phase and feel free to post back up as there are a few guys who have a look and chip in if they can.
