So the day finally came yesterday and got my surgery yesterday! I was in lunch time and out by 8pm which was great.
I have been given the jockstrap to wear and advise to keep this on for next couple of weeks. Did anyone else keep this on or any better alternatives to wearing? I also forgot about taking off compression socks did anyone else keep these on post op or if you are mobile do you need to keep them on?
Didn’t get the greatest first night sleep trying to keep comfortable but I am usually a on the side sleep but unsure if this would be a great position for the moment. Can anyone else advise?
In Summary if anyone has any some great post op care tips please do leave a comment
Hi. First of all. Welcome to the club :). Hope mentally you are doing well. It gets better. My first top tip of the day would be....do not sneeze, cough or laugh for like 2 weeks. I wasn't made aware of this and let out an almighty sneeze like day 3 and god it hurts haha. I never wore a jock strap at all. I let it all hang loose. I wore the socks for like 4 days and barely got out of bed. Although I could to go to the toilet etc ( also don't push when pooing) I just milked it and played playstation and watched movies cause why not. I slept what ever position kept me comfy. Take your painkillers as scheduled and that helps. After couple weeks you'll be walking fine. My best advice is to relax. Don't worry about doing anything and take the time out your life to do some f*ck all for a while. Doesn't come around often and you have a good excuse. Any questions you have, fire away.
Andrew
Thanks for responding Andrew that’s been very informative. They have gave me the jock strap but I bought y fronts in preperation but unsure to stick with what they gave me or maybe switch to them at a certain point
if you don’t mind me asking.. how long after op did you managed to pass a poo?! I’ve now started passing a lot of gas so that’s a good sign but no movement yet but I’m guessing this is common mixed with pain meds.
My apologies. You literally said that in your first post. I've just had a son so I'm sleep deprived. That's my excuse. Don't worry too much about pooing. Don't do what I did and try pushing too early. At about 2 weeks post op I felt fine. No bad pains or that. Walking about etc. But I tried pushing a bit on the toilet. It felt fine no pain again but when I stood up the scar had bulged out about an inch and a half. Was such a scary moment but nothing came of it. Pushed it back down and it never happened again. But the pressure from pushing could have burst my stitches.
Yeah I am going grand. I have came off the strong pain meds as wasnt in that much pain anymore which doctors were happy with and just on paracetamol and ibuprofen and getting on fine.
sleeping totally fine mentioned to doctor about sleeping on side and said I would be fine so getting good night sleep. Overall pretty much back on my feet but still taking it easy. Just a little nippy getting up and down off chairs which is understandable haha
Aye. You'll be stiff for a week or 2 anyway. I couldn't take the strong meds. Had that stuff in the past when I done a back injury and it wiped me right out. Felt like a junky. Proper drooling and that. The pain only ever happens when you move about. What you doing to pass the time then?
