Hello
kind of weird to have a cancer that only about 70 people get a year in England. Just had my biopsy diagnosis confirmed and waiting for results of my full body scan and chest CT and hopefully not one of the small number that have metastasis at diagnosis. It’s on the thigh. Who knew thigh cancer was a thing!! . Heading towards Radiotherapy and Surgery. So wondering if anyone else has had similar and can share experience? Feel I am in great hands at Oswestry and soon to be commuting to Birmingham every day for my radiotherapy.
Peace and Love

Hi,
I was diagnosed with a Myxoid Liposarcoma of the thigh in 2021- thankfully, no mets. I had 5 weeks of radiotherapy and then surgery a month or so later. The radiotherapy wasn’t too bad side effect wise- some stiffness in the knee, tiredness, red and soreness in the targeted area. The effects are worse towards and at the end of the treatment but a good cream will help lessen any sore spots.
Surgery wasn’t as bad as I thought it’d be. The procedure was about 2-2.5 hours long which obviously, I was under anaesthetic for. I was only in hospital for 2 days so that was ok. It took probably a month or so for my leg to completely heal- I was off crutches after about a week. The worst part was the blood thinning injections post surgery. Horrible. The scar healed nicely and the skin around it doesn’t get too dry or sore. I did lose some motion in my leg and it can still get a bit stiff and achy from time to time but is generally ok.
As of March last year, I’m officially in remission and I’m on 4 monthly follow ups with chest x-rays.
I hope everything goes smoothly for you and that your full body and ct scans come back clear. If you have any questions, feel free to ask : )
Thank you
that is very helpful advice. And so pleased with your outcome. My consultant has promised that I will get back on the hills as long as my scans are clear and we can get cracking with the leg. Next Thursday for my results
Hi Mich33
Welcome to our community though sorry you have this worry, waiting for results is really hard. Good to hear you are under the royal orthopedic in Birmingham though since it is one of the sarcoma specialist centers. My wife is under the Churchill in Oxford so that was helpful for us to.
Hope you get some results soon and then find out what your next step is.
<<hugs>>
Steve
