GIST

Back in early 2020 during a routine endoscopy a lump was found, I was told I needed an endoscopy with ultrasound for diagnosis. 3 years on and and after being told 4 times now I need this procedure I haven't had it done. In February this year following my annual endoscopy they have stated what I have is a GIST over the past 3 years they have called it something different every time.  My consultant has said 5mm bigger and they would be considering surgery and they might consider the EUS next year, I haven't had any biopsies but they tell me it's not malignant.  Surely I am not being told I need the EUS for the sake of it.   I have been backwards and forwards to my GP for 2 years as I haven't felt well, they are now looking at this side of things as possible Fibromyalgia or chronic fatigue syndrome .  I have mentioned a  number of times could this growth be to do with it and they just seem to ignore me.  How has everyone else being dealt with when they have been told they have a GIST, I just feel that I am getting fobbed off.

  • Hi

I'm sorry to hear that this has dragged on for you with no clear explanations. Is it possible that your GP could look into this for you? Have you got a PALS (patient advice and liaison service) at your hospital. They will work on behalf of you to get some clear answers.

If neither of these are an option, you could ring the Macmillan helpline for advice. There are nurses to speak to or ask an expert service. This is the link below

I hope you get some answers soon. Best regards,
